The fires out west are sending visible smoke particles to the East coast. Yesterday the morning sky was tinged orange. The sunset had a lot of orange haze around a bright orange sun. Today, the sky just looks Like hazy overcast. It’s hard to see any individual clouds with any clarity. You can’t smell it, but it is changing the skies here.

    Yeah, odd brown-ish, red-ish tinge /hazy skies.
Sun has been huge thru haze around 4 PM, almost promising an amazing sunset, then it just disappears in the haze.
We have weather coming so now we just have grey to the west this afternoon.

looks like the first fire of the year will happen in the next few days. High of 63F with a low of 40 every night. With the exception of tomorrow, its going to be sunny though, so maybe solar gain will suffice....provided I can get my wife to keep the damm doors closed!

I was thinking the same thing here in CT. If the house is cold enough on Sunday morning when I wake up I'll gladly throw a few splits in the stove and kick off the season.

    You need one of these.

I got one of these and they are game changers. Ear, eye, face, and head protection all in one.

That's the ticket! Especially if you're doing storm cleanup or dealing with dead trees and you're concerned about falling limbs... nice having all the necessary PPE in one piece of gear.

Last night I started wondering if I could just replace that bottom pipe. I'll have to look into it.. I'm unsure if that would be enough to stabilize the two kinked areas at the top, but it may be worth a try.

I took off work early today and drove right past free pile of maple. A few guys were dropping small maples at a house. The wood was not out this morning. Looks like red maple, which I have never processed before. This should round out my 7th cord stacks. Lots of odd cut sizes, but I'll take it.

The spalted ones will be put aside for wood turning if solid enough.
