today I picked up about 12 birch rounds. This is probably the driest wood I ever tried to split. The bark just fell off in one sheet as soon as the wedge touched the rounds. Are the bark sheets worth anything to sell? Or just add them to the waste pile.
That stuff makes a fantastic fire starter. Way better than newspaper. Personally, I'd cut it into strips and hang on to it for my own use.
I'm sure that some people do artsy fartsy things with it like liners for shadow boxes and picture frames and such. If nice large pieces came off, I would at least keep them until I had looked into it. If you don't find people to use it then
If it came off in big enough sheets, birch bark can make some really nice moose calls. The smaller one was my first try, then I got a little fancy with the stitching on the bigger one.
No moose here in Northern Ohio. Maybe use at 7am after the nieghbor leaves their barking dog out till 3.
If you can skin that bark it really can make nice paper. Wife and I used to make Christmas cards with it too. A little paste or glue then sprinkle with colored glitter will get you started. Most folks love them.
I would call animal control. If talking to them about it. One of our previous dogs did that and until the neighbor said something, we didn't have a clue.
You can always give it a try... Maybe I'm too critical of people but I think most people that buy firewood by the bundle are casual burners that wouldn't see the value in buying birch bark tinder bundles. They might scoff at them and use whatever greasy McDonald's paper bag or inked magazine paper they could find to get their fire started. I could be way wrong though. I don't know, I like having birch bark around for my own use so I'm biased.
I live in a college town so there's alot of people that would rather use s natural product and save the paper for the recycle bin
