I think it has a great effect. Watching how fast the drips come out of the drain hose into the sump hole and then seeing how much they've slowed down after a couple of weeks is self evident. Adding a fan would certainly help. My dehumidifier blows the warm air out the top so I made a cardboard deflector that points it toward the woodpile.
