East Coast Lumber In Hampstead N.M. has pellets
New England $6.00 per bag or $279.00 a ton
    Okanagan gold $6.25 a bag or $292.00 a ton
    And the grand prize
Okanagan Douglas Fir $7.90 a bag or $375.00 a ton

I figured that It was such a swell day (90 Deg.) and I dont want to worry about fall shortages so I got 2 ton delivered and I am set for this winter. $39.00 delivery charge.

    I got the Okies gold
I have been using the Okie brand (Red bag Clear bag and the Black hills heat)for the last 5 years with very good results. I just cleaned the stove and 5 feet of pipe and got about 4 oz. of soot out of It after burning 2 tons.
I tried 10 bags of the Douglas Fir this last April and although good I don't think they are $2.00 a bag better. Plus burning oil is cheaper

    Truth In advertizing
On the bag In big black letters they state LESS than 5% moisture content and then down below in the box marked Okanagan lab results they state 6%.
The old bags of Black hills heat are marked 4.15 moisture and 9038 BTU
The new gold bags are marked 8300 BTU
So I don't think they are quite the same.
    Time will tell

    Jim,
The gold is a new pellet. The BHH was a ponderosa pine pellet and the Gold is a common SPF. BHH mill was having production issues and not being able to meet demand that Okanagan wanted. So they took the business to another mill that could produce the bulk pellets for the Upton bagging plant.

I haven't tried them, but a bud said they we very close to the standard okies pellet.

    AKA Mr Warm!!
Must be on a martini break! Geez!! :p

Anyway, See this thread for some of the details on the Okies Gold pellet!!

I did use the Black hills last year and as said they were pretty good BUT as you said the business was taken to another mill I remember one time In tears past General motors took there Cadillac to the Chevrolet engine plant and sure they had engines In them but the costumer paid for Cadillac. As you say TIME WILL TELL

without a doubt, a new mill a fair distance away will result in a DIFFERENT pellet, but that's also not saying it isn't just as good, or nearly as good, or even better.
