So I am going to learn more about building and rebuilding 2-cycle engines , so I thought that I could start by picking everyone’s brains on here. I have general hand tools, a lot of cordless tools and some air tools. I know I need a tachometer and a compression tester, but not sure what else. I am turning one stall in the garage into a repair shop, just have to clean out the collection of stuff and add more lights.
I’m not a mechanic, but hacked around some on dirt bikes. You can do a lot with a good set of hand tools. Specialty items may be a case splitter, bearing/flywheel puller, small torque wrench. Good luck
I’d recommend “Taryl fixes all” channel on YouTube. At first he seems pretty gimmicky, but it’s all designed for making money and standing out. Once you watch a few he’s actually a really intelligent guy who knows his stuff. Plus they are entertaining.
Get some T handle torx. I would get a 3/8 drive impact for removing clutches and the nut on the flywheel and putting them back on. You can get a puller if you want for the flywheel but I have never used one and have never had a problem getting them off. If you do decide to split a case then a case splitter would be nice to have. There some special tools used for removing the worm gear for the oiler. A small two jaw gear puller is sometimes handy. For working on the carburetors I have a pair of pointed tweezers so I can get the small parts back together. When first taking these saws apart take lots of pictures. It makes things a lot easier when going back together. Like wiring and fuel lines and how they route. Get some brushes for cleaning and a good compressor for blowing stuff off.
Check at Bailey’s . Sometimes they offer a package of Wiha tools for about 50 bucks . It includes 3,4,5 mm and 3/16 T handles , 3&4 mm ball driver , 8mm ,10mm T handle socket ,and T27 torx T handle .
x2 and piston ring clamps Fly wheel pullers. Stihl and Husqvarna Seal pullers, homemade or other. Glasses Air Compressor Good sealant, yamabond 4 is what use
Yep a ultrasonic is a good one to have. I use mine all the time even for cleaning cylinders once I have them off. I just do one half at time.
