True, no good braking system. But who says an ATV ride has to be forward only? LOL

Well.. with certain areas of our property.. I'll run out of forward progress before I run out of rope.

Without being able to lock the log, I can't move the pulley system, and sometimes the trees just aren't considerate enough to be where I need them.

Understood. And that’s when the wild backwards ride begins. It’s all about embracing life :)

Back to splitting this morning. All seems well enough, at least for now.
The splitter table did finally buckle under the abuse it’s not designed for. Easy enough to beef that up. Yanked it back into position with the winch And I’ll work on that some other day. It’s always something. Now I know why they named the Dirty Hand Tools LOL. 20D064F3-AEE6-40F9-A737-A00CE89DDEC9.jpeg 7466DE72-C8A9-4C88-829F-A3B6B11C3E34.jpeg 9C51D11F-1FA9-47ED-A0F1-78C19846EEC8.jpeg 14DAB503-E69F-4DD1-9108-C19616B052B7.jpeg

No, I don't have a capstan one. All of mine are drums. Have thought of making one though out of a hydraulic wheel motor.

All of the side load from the directional change still applies.

I looked at them, but ended up going with that big 12K hydraulic instead. The skidder winch is a drum type also, no idea on load capacity on that one. Old 3 speed trans driven by a hydraulic stator/rotor.
