Even when I measure and mark (I try for 18”) my rounds still don’t end up being very uniform. Probably ‘cause I don’t get no straight trees to work with.

Set a new pallet (3'x10') and moved what HL i had and stacked yesterday including what i cut Wednesday. Sides are 3.5' but ill stack to nearly 5' so if filled it'll hold a full cord. IMG_3056.JPG Moved the skinnies intact. Included a few rounds and nuggets. Still have a bunch of splittable rounds there to process. IMG_3055.JPG IMG_3056.JPG

You're not the only one, that is how I do it as well. Only difference, I use $1 can of spray paint and tape measure. I think that folding ruler is something I need to move to though.
Hate it when the tape falls off the log and have to rehook. As for crooked pieces I just take the farthest point (if angled), hook it with the tape, measure out, get a nice straight cut and
keep going from that, repeat as necessary.

The folding rule works great. Piece of kids sidewalk chalk in my front pocket. (my favorite dollar store item) Once in a blue moon ill used the tape when i have a nice straight trunk and can mark away. In the woods or a tangle bucking a full tree its not happening. Usually unfolded to 16" and mark one, move and repeat.
Been using a folding rule my whole life. Great for on the roof. Quick in and out of back pocket. Not clumsy or bulky and handy when you need it. IMG_3115.JPG IMG_3114.JPG

I was dropping the pallets off at my friends last night and the stack of recently split pin oak was emitting quite the manure smell. IMG_3089.JPG

Went back and bucked the big trunk. Wanted to use bigger saw but still in the shop. 18" DBH IMG_3191.JPG IMG_3192.JPG
Found a nail with the Isocore...better than with the saw! It was a yard tree so no surprise! IMG_3190.JPG
Rolled the log to buck, im a few seconds into a cut and something moves directly in front of the bar...the luckiest amphibian! It was under the trunk and blended in. I toad it to be careful! IMG_3189.JPG
Split it all yesterday and stacked. I have all the skinnies and some small to process yet so it will make well over a cord of HL. IMG_3202.JPG IMG_3203.JPG

I had some HL cut split and stacked on concrete for 3 years. and it barely burned in an owb. After 3 years it still wasn't seasoned enough to burn. I'd be interested to see how long it takes to season for you on the east coast. Sweet score though.
