Ive been running out of room for wood storage. Have a bunch crammed into my friends front yard with room for another two cord at best. I need room for the three or so cord of storm downed oak from next door. Ive decided not to take any oak on purpose as the 2-3 year wait is too long for me. My friend offered me more room in his back woods which i initially declined as his back yard gets really muddy with the water table being high. In a jam with this oak i took him up on it. He mowed all the weeds in there yesterday and i brought in 3/4 PU load of oak ready for stacking. Had some pallets and need more as oak and longer seasoning wood will go in there. I may move all the one year seasoned oak and hickory in his front yard back there. This will open up room in front again for short term wood. Pin oak i split today. I figure i can get at least 10-12 cord in here. Picture will be a 12' x 4' stack double row (16" splits) when finished. I just have to do it before the ground gets too wet. Ill store long term seasoning wood there. Its a nice circular area i can drive right into off the back corner of his yard Room to turn around. Plenty of room to cut and split if necessary. Ill spread stacks around it perimeter. May move the partial stacks of my "exotic woods" ie apple, walnut, honey locust there as well. Dont really have a good area for them in front and are hastily mounded/stacked. I dont get a lot of these as they are scarce scrounges. I guess ill update as it fills up.
10-12 cord is a great amount! I am always in need if space since downsizing. I feel you struggle. Looks like a great set up though, with the oak out back on pallets. I have learned to try my best not to turn down wood. I have a gal that has called me for years to clear out pecan trees. Great wood, easily accessible and good people. Even if I don’t have room, I make room as I never want to have her have to call someone else. I definitely prioritize now. All oak with exception of a small amount of pine, or pecan etc that is free for the pickin.
If i have to take oak i will. Its very abundant around here and plenty that i dont take. 3-4 scores i could cut within five minutes of me. Wish i had some of that nice dry Northern California air to dry it faster. Can you send some my way Reddingnative ?
