Some, maybe most, folks also fall back on their central heating system to cut off the lowest parts of those temperature swings.

Yep, this is one reason why I took up "secondary" heat source of a wood stove. I try to use the stove for most of our heating needs (keep our monthly gas bill down) but the furnace is there if need be to pick up where the stove has trailed off, which is usually around 4 or 5 am before I can tend to the stove before I head to work. The stove is "Secondary" because we have a gas furnace which is listed as the primary heating system with the insurance company.

Thanks for that update, I did not know. I think it was Thursday last week I forwarded my last email to Mike on to info address so maybe give it a few days. If I don't hear anything in the next couple days I will give them a call. I know my procrastination will be working against me big time this time of year. Thought about waiting until spring again, but I know I will just put it off again. Hate to loose out on their offer to repair it.

Stephiedoll I see that you wrote that you hope that the IS is as good as the Quad was. What did you like about the Quad and why didn't you just get another one.

    Rich,
I think a lot of that centers on the fact we purchased the Quad used for $500 and ran it hard as it was a small 2 cubic foot firebox, if I remember correctly. Also it never gave us any issues other than a door gasket and the fiberboard at the top (normal wear items). At the time the Idea Steel was released for field testing I was looking hard at the Quad 5700st. Can't remember what the price was on it, but Quads are not a cheap stove.
The Woodstock is a beast when cranked up with almost double the firebox. As this is a secondary heat source to our nature gas furnace I'm not positive spending $2,500 on the WS was the brightest move, but do love the stove and do not regret the move. It has cut our wood consumption down at least a third plus we don't have to run the stove as hard for out 2,300sf+ raised ranch. Most winters we can all but turn off the furnace. When I discovered the crack that others were seeing I was heartbroken to say the least. As it was out of warranty I never dreamed that Woodstock would cover it, why should they as it was 4 years old. But, as other's have said, they are going to take care of all expenses, other than the pellet, and in my case, getting it to the terminal as I picked it up there. Lorin emailed me yesterday about Mike being gone and is getting the paperwork together for us to drop it off at ABF.
If you're looking for a stove I agree with others that Woodstock should be on the short list. As it does have moving parts and the cat. it will have more maintenance and upkeep. I got 3 years out of the cat. but that is to be expected. I got in a gasket kit for the stove along with 2 cats last fall but only installed the cat so far. I also need to order a new radiator as mine is warping and flacking quite a bit. Writing is not my strong suite but hope this helps some.

Your response is great.I enjoyed your feedback.I didn't understand what you meant by pellet and the need to order a radiator. Are you telling me the stove has some kind of radiator in it ? It's good to hear that the stove has dealt with your winters.I suspect that your winters are very frigid. I've have dealt with many stove manufactures and no one I dealt with comes close to the service Woodstock provides.Hopefully you'll have your stove back in time for the heating season.I have a feeling that in my area anyway we'll have a cold winter. Thanks .Take care.

The radiator is a steel piece that lives between the cat and the top of the stove. It takes the heat of the cat and keeps the top of the stove from failing. They had some issues with them but have added a stainless steel piece to help out. Some might consider this piece a consumable.

Thank you Coach.Since I'm old school I didn't realize how many parts go into the making of this stove.

Pellet = pallet. She had to find a pallet to ship it to WS for repair.

Yeah, I called Woodstock yesterday and asked about an approx. ETA on my stove (they have it now) and Laureen (sp?) said she would get back to me when she knew something about it. No call back yet. But she did say that 1) they have had some employee changes and 2) they are buried with work. I still have confidence in them but am just a little wary now :)

And yep, you are going to need it back sooner than I do..... for sure!

Lorin. I have a good friend who is “Lauren”, so I stumble over Lorin’s spelling, too.

We've been talking, and debating on seeing if they will let us wait until spring. 1oof on Sunday but Tuesday the high will be 54f. But that means dragging the beast back in to the house.
