It was windy here yesterday, and even windier today.

It went back up to hot and humid here again in the 80s. Maybe that wind will get to us and cool it down some. T-storms tonight.

Yes, we too had some of that wind yesterday. That quite often is the start of fall. August most times are light wind and many times calm. I used to look forward to that when riding bicycle. August was always my highest mileage total and several 100+ mile rides. Boy how I miss that.

Got paid to make firewood today...had to take down a big dead boxelder at work.
When it hit the ground a squirrel must have been in the hollow upper trunk...he was hightailing it across the yard toward the woods!
Found these HUGE grubs in the tree too...wonder what they are? IMG_20200903_143953412.jpg

Kinda hard to tell from the pic but looks like it has an orange head which is most likely a stag beetle from the size of the grub. There are hundreds if not thousands of stag beetles /wood grubs and you'd need an entomologist to identify it.

I took care of the slate pile that my friend dropped off. In about 2 hours I cut the smaller pieces into 4" x 4" squares. The tile cutter was a borrowed stationary motor, and the guide fence was plastic. It moved a few times so some of the tiles are a little off.

So I am about 36" wide by 42" deep. I'll cut 20 more just to be sure I have plenty for 18" front clearance. We had unfading green slate at the last house, but this is more than good. It is gooder.

I have a chimney service stopping out next week for install pricing. Hopefully we can nail this install down this fall. Last pieces of dvl will be here in a few days. I can't let this go another season.

Met up with the neighbors today and they are having some trees taken down and said I can have the wood. Several cords of ash and cherry it looks to be.
