What seed companies is everyone using? I’ve been using burgess for many years . The last few years of failed gardens and wrong seeds in packets has me pizzed!
Mwalsh9152 a couple years ago I had a huge cherry toma tomatoe plant. I ended up mixing my roma and cherry tomatoe together for spaghetti sauce. Worked out fine.
Been using Twilley seed co out of GA? Been pretty decent but like other places have got some wrong seeds. The last several years they have sent me a 20% coupon to use by thanksgiving. I like their smaller sized quantities to being able to try out new varieties. The other place I use is Martin's produce supplies in Shippensburg PA. They cater to produce growers and have some good prices. Not a real big selection though.
I buy seeds all over including the local hardware store, greenhouse, and grocery store...mostly burpee, livingston, and northrup king. My favorite are Fedco seeds that I can buy at the Ace hardware store in Grand Marais. But they all seem pretty good.
I like these guys for maters... Heirloom Tomato Seeds on Sale | Organic Seeds | TomatoFest also these Tomato
There are buyers from 5 or 6 states that come there. Even NY. Depending on the size of the lot you can buy as little as 1 or 2 boxes. Sometimes "homebuyers" as we call them will go together and buy say 40 or 50 dozen sweet corn to freeze or can. Being only 1 guy I take a lot of small lots and sometimes they sell for as much or more than the big lots.
I put more out, but as of yesterday he didn't take any more. I've also not seen him or seen any evidence of him since the first few pieces went missing.
For all my PA gardening friends. We have a few new pests in the keystone state to be on the lookout for. Jumping worms and Swede midge. If you think you see these notify your local extension office. Please look at the links I've posted. Thanks. Another Challenging Pest Has Made Pennsylvania Its Home. Swede Midge: Now in Pennsylvania.
Ok got a question for you folks. Have a son and out in Fort Collins, Colorado. The last couple days been 90s. Now in about 2 days they are expecting 3 to 5 inches of snow. Then it is going back up to 80s. What would you recommend to as covering for his garden. I thought of sheet and he mentioned plastic bags.
How about a sprinkler positioned so it reaches all plants. Will keep them from reaching freeze temps.
We used flat bed sheets at 5600' just above FTC, he just has to check it overnight to make sure the snow is not too heavy and breaks the plants. Wipe the heavy snow off.
Pulled my Mators ... only thing I have left is Jalapeños... no to clean up and organize for next year..
Thinking about dicing this radish up and sauteing it for lunch. Hoping it's just a little spicy and not woody.
