Got a call from a buddy. More storm related wood. For some reason here on Long Island people and utility crews are cutting the wood into perfect sized rounds and leaving it on the curb for the towns to dispose of. The amount of Oak, Maple, Locust and Cherry the last few weeks has been the most since Sandy in 2012. I have no room. Here’s some pics from just today. All rounds cut and left on curb. Most 20-26” across and about 15” long
Easy pickings. The way they’re cutting it to nearly perfect firewood length, to me sends a clear message. Get it while you can! Even if you have to store the rounds in a big pile until spring when you’ve got more room, find a spot
I still see grass in your yard , so there is still room for more wood It would be hard for me to pass up stuff like that.
Great score! Side note: this is a great picture. My wife says it looks like it should be on an album cover.
awesome I wish I could have stuff like that I called the landfill and they were like no one can have it . your city just gives it to you . pile it up
White oak definitely gives me that whiskey barrel smell. I’d make room with wood cut to length. Go vertical and cover it.
Get all you can. That's easy pickings and will be easy splitting when you can get to that. With white oak, the nice thing is that it will hold up well until you can get it processed.
Went back and got more. Like a drug there’s so much down here it’s criminal. 1/2 mile Away there is a pile Of red oak logs On the curb. 3 feet high by 55 feet long. 5 trees worth. Logs are knot free and stacked like Matches. Each log 4’ long
There was even some Black Locust in Centerreach. I’m keeping an eye on you guys down there LOL Think that was the name of the town. Memory bites.
Speaking of trees I WILL NOT HOARDMOR BURN BLACK LOCUST! I know some of you love it but I can’t stand the smell of it. Yes it has great BTUs but I’d rather Oak, Cherry, Ash, Maple And Hickory any day
