Talked to an old work colleague the other day that retired 5+ years ago. He had an old family sawmill on his farm and we would talk logging at work some times. We both helped cleanup another colleague's farm after a storm. He brought his 066 and I brought my 044. Last time we talked he mentioned he had an extra saw or two would I be interested in buying them. Of course I was. We met yesterday for lunch and visit. After lunch he says, "Let's go look at saws.". He had 2 in the back of his SUV. Tells me he has used both this spring and made sure they ran before he packed them up. He did replace the jug and piston on the 066 over 10 years ago and one leaks fuel because the vent seal is gone. $150 for the 026 and $350 for the 066 I'm so excited. Can I convert the 026 over to 3/8 0.050 chain and bar? Then all my saws would take the same bars, chains, and files expect the 180 using 3/8 pico.
Great score at good prices. You can convert the 026 I believe to 3/8. But IMO the saw is just a little short on power for that size chain. I like the 18" .325 on my 026 and 261.
I now have a Stihl 180, 026, 036, 044, and 066. I'm in $620 for all of them. Helps when the old man gave me two of them. They will pay for themselves every year in firewood. After reading comments and older posts I'll probably stick with the 18" .325, 0.063 chain that's on it for now. I see alot more once used chain for sale in that pitch ND gauge than probably all other chains combined
