    Why?
    By Pastor Mike Novotny

Did you hear about that jury trial for the evil cat who murdered the innocent mouse? Snuck up on her while she was trying to get some cheese for her babies, poor little thing. Did you catch that on Court TV?

No, you didn’t. We don’t have court cases for cats or lawyers for lions. We don’t call it murder when a dog drags home a backyard catch. But we do for humans. Why the difference? If the atheist is right and we’re just evolved animals, why doesn’t survival of the fittest fit into our consciences? Why do we march for justice and equality? Why do we care about the innocent and defenseless? Why don’t we just let the strongest survive?

Answer—Because we’re not animals. We’re people, created in the image of God. The apostle Paul wrote, “When Gentiles (non Jews), who do not have the law (the Bible), do by nature things required by the law . . . they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts” (Romans 2:14,15). Where did this idea of good and evil come from? From God. For morality to make sense, you need the law of God.

The next time an unbelieving friend calls something good/bad, uses the moral word should in a sentence, or reveals a concern for justice, ask a thought-provoking question—Why? Why would anything be just, unjust, bad, or good . . . unless there was a God who declared it to be so?

"WORD From The Woods" Weekly Devotional
    [IMG]
    WORD From The Woods

    Galatians 6:1-10

"Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load. One who is taught the word must share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."

In the beginning of this passage Paul tells us that we are to come along side our brothers and sisters in Christ who are struggling with getting caught up in sin, and restore them in gentleness and love. Now we are not called to be "sin police" but when a Christian we know is having a real struggle with sin we should be able to help and encourage them to turn away from that sin and back to Christ. In they same way, when we are caught up in sin we should be willing to ask a fellow Christian to help us in times of struggle. Paul warns in verse 3 not to think too highly of ourselves and to examine ourselves first. He Says that we must each bear our own load, we are responsible for our own sin and the consequences that follow. Paul uses what's know as the "law of the harvest" as a metaphor to explain this to us. We will always reap what we sow! If we sow according to the flesh we will reap according to the flesh, and if we sow according to the Spirt we will reap according to the spirit. It's really pretty simple! We must, as followers of Christ, really follow Christ! As Paul says in verse 10, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, just as Christ taught us to do by his example. Keep your eyes on Christ Jesus and share the good news of salvation with the world!

God bless and have a great week! -Terry-

Thanks. I remember just a couple months ago you had pointed out the maul I was using and mentioned switching to hydraulics someday. I'm glad the recent storm here dropped that big oak in my yard because that pushed me to finally pull the trigger on a splitter... No regrets!

I had to do the same at mom's. Her pipe was under slab, clay pipe got infested with roots. Had it reamed out a couple times... 0207201104_HDR.jpg 0207201220.jpg 0207201221.jpg 0207201411.jpg 0207201526.jpg

For some reason I'm having flashback to when we got our splitter. I did curse a bit at first when I found I put something together wrong; totally my fault for not following instructions. But then when I finally got to try it out, I did a dance and gave a big whoop. I fell in love with it and that continues.

A neighbor has told me that three days in a row some forecasters are claiming the hot spell they are having out west will hit us next month so September is forecast to be hot and dry. I pray that forecast is wrong.

Very nice. Here is something you might want to make, it really helps with the big rounds getting on the splitter foot 0607201153.jpg 0607201154.jpg 0607201155.jpg Also, once you go horizontal, you can add some ramps to the table, helps on bigger rounds and holds more smaller rounds... 0818202124.jpg 0405201515.jpg 0405201534.jpg

I like that a lot, a little Dixie ingenuity! I was using a scrap piece of 2 x 6 to kind of prop up the rounds and get them on the splitter foot. That rack looks like it works wonders and it's easy enough to make. The ramp is a good idea too. I can't say I've seen that before. Better than bending up and down all day long, for sure.

I got wiser as I got older...lol...and don't mind sharing the ideas. Chvymn99 wants to build a rack like that too. He saw it in action last year at a GTG. Just make sure it is higher than the points on the foot. I've slid 30"+ rounds up to the beam with just a push of my knees. With a little practice, when you roll a big round up to it, give it a good flip and it will slide in place.
On the ramp, I will handle 20-22" rounds

Kiddo and I went for cleaning/checkup at dentist today. I went to TREAT myself to Taco Bell. Yes, love that stuff, I have my entire life. My favorite item of all times is now OFF the menu :(:picard: The old style tostada (not with the new chipoltle, but red sauce and x sour cream.:(

Oh, and my Asics were delivered, woo, they are the right style (nice wide sole), except the same rabbit hole as last time, sz 7 in this style, and size 8 in the newer skimpier kind. Oh well, for $40, I'm keep them even though they are a bit big.

Taco Bell sounds good right about now. I usually keep a couple extra packets of Diablo sauce in my center console to hold me over until I can make it back there again :) I only go there maybe 5-6 times a year. When I was younger it was almost a weekly thing.

x2, now I'm home pretty much all year, out of town, so I only get it like 3 times a year. I'm so bummed about the tostadas!

I fished a new t-stat wire from the 2nd floor bedroom to the basement. I had a clear shot down along the chimney to the basement. Ran the wire one bay over in the attic and down the bedroom wall.

We have two zone heating on one thermostat. Last winter was our first one here. The t-stat downstairs would call and run the circ on the upstairs zone too.

I have a second Nest thermostat to install now. Oil tech will be out next week to service the boiler and I will have him rewire the new t-stat to the boiler control. I would do it myself, but I don't want to short anything out.

I should easily make the return on the t-stat cost and then some with better temp management. I should have done this sooner, but I have attic floor boards pulled up now and everything is accessible.

I still have to fish wires on all floors for smoke/CO combo detectors. Hard wired interconnected. Any significant renovation requires upgrade on smokes. Doing it right the first time. Inspectors like that. Gotta love old houses.

Cut down a 30-40” Ash today. I’ll try to remember to get pics of the log tomorrow and measure diameter. Biggest ash I’ve ever come across in my part of the world. I never think of taking pics while I’m working and the back of my neck is sizzling. Have to fell 130’+ dead short leaf pine through a small window tomorrow, so that oughta make a big boom if It doesn’t get hung up.
