Today we picked up another full load with my cousin's trailer. Ran out of room in my landing area and one of the logs stuck out in the driveway. Ended up getting out the chainsaw and the splitter. There was a larger log sitting on top of the one that is sticking out in the driveway. The first one was already bucked, split and loaded in the back of the truck. That first log filled the first row. The bucks were rather large. As big as want to pickup and put on the splitter. Anything bigger and I would have had to flip up the splitter. After bucking, splitting and loading the second log. I topped off the load with splits from previous logs we bucked and split. Plus I added some narly splits in the back corner. I've decided to build a Holz Hausen in the backyard. Instead of 10' diameter, I am going with an 8' diameter. From what I've read a 10' diameter, 10' high will be roughly 6 cords. I'm looking to get 4 cords in each one. That would give me one per each year. I'm considering building a Holz Hausen in the from yard where the logs are sitting in the first picture. Once I've cleared all of the logs out of that area and the logs you can't see because of the poison sumac and brush on the other side of the truck, , I'll have plenty of room to drop logs in the area on the other side of the truck in the last picture. Stuck at a softball game today. It was getting dark. So I ended up starting the base, but ended up putting the bulk of the load on the ground next to it as it was getting dark too quick. As soon as we get home today I’ll be working on that or if it rains I’ll be in the garage working on putting up shelves and lumber racks I’ve mentioned as part of my overall plan. The first two logs of this load split nice. The splits from the first load were mixed results. I have a good amount of work ahead of me. My thought is to take advantage of cooler Saturday mornings and cut, split and stack a log. Then pack up the trash and head to the dump. It might take a while, but I’ll noodle it down. Freeing up some space will make room for the fall when people start doing yard work and start taking down trees again. Once the fall comes with cooler days, we’ll take a full day and knock out a bunch in one shot. Tomorrow I need to send my chains off to get sharpened. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
