Tree guy said it was linden. The bark looks like oak. The white meat looks and feels like sugar maple but there's a distinct green stripe in the center of the rounds. This was part of the score I found at the dump. Thanks in advance as always.
Thanks guys! I think the bark on poplar looks like another round that I split where the wood was much lighter and brown in the heartwood and white on the sapwood. I will take pics if I find another piece of ehat I think is linden....
Thanks! I just noticed in your sig that you have a Fiskars Isocore maul. Man, I'm 6' 280 and I can't swing that thing save my life. You must be a giant. My neighbor who is 5'10" 175 soaking wet has it and I told him that thing was way to big...But he's a pretty stubborn fellow and still uses it hahahahahaha. I laugh every time I see it. He finally caved last week and bought an X27. Also, you're not too far away from me. I'm right by the Tappan Zee bridge....
Im one town above New Haven...North Haven. Im 6' 230 and have no problem swinging the isocore. I dont use it that much mostly to section big rounds or halving. The X27 is my weapon of choice. I was splitting sugar maple and using mostly the isocore yesterday. Its a great maul. Got mine last October. I love the X27. Broke one a couple years ago and the sent a new one under the warranty. Some linden (aka basswood) pics Its splits straight and easy and is light as a feather when dry.
