Wife ordered quarantine

haven't been feeling very well for last 2 days ( doubt its Covid just got negative test Thursday.) So been sitting inside trying to beat this thing. Now I'm hearing chainsaws and a chipper running very close.
Wife said I got to stay put but the temptation is worse than this bug. Think the dogs need walked

I walked the dogs over there less than 1/2 mile walk may a few hundred yards if I could cut through yards. To find a pile of oak in the yard next to where they are cutting but its got caution tape around it so I guess its off limits.
But their cutting some type of oak. Not very big maybe 12in at base.
Grabbed a leaf to try to identify better

 

Looks like white oak, of some type. BIG white oak leaf.

 

Has bristles at the end of lobes, not white oak.

 

I had something back in June and knocked me for a loop for a few days (never got tested) and feel your pain!
Leaf is some type of oak IMO.

 

I see those now. Like little spikes at the tip of the lobes.

Hmmmmm.......

I had the covid virus no big deal. I was tested and reported to the health dept. My symptoms showed up within 2 days of exposure.

Hope you feel better and if you do have it you will be fine. You will just have to be patient and ride it out.

By the way I am 2 months from 70 so I was no spring chicken.

 

I believe this to be true most of the time. Many also get it and never no it.

Leaves look like Southern Red Oak.

Was feeling better this morning so fired up the splitter. Split for about 45 minutes. Think I overdid it

 

There's a LOT of different kinds of red oaks, some of which the leaves don't look like an archetypal red oak leaf at all.
Red oaks can also hybridize naturally and end up with a sport of a leaf shape. I've seen an oak tree with two kinds of leafs - kinda like a sassafras with several variations of mitten shapes so who knows what's going on genetically with them except for maybe a geneticist or a tree-whisperer.

Note that they tend to include acorn shapes and sizes to help with leafs that are quite similar or as a second identifier.
