Here’s the kicker. Decided to charge the battery in the atv. Soooo trail ride Can’t even get a decent phone call at my house due to poor reception and heavy cell traffic. Out in the middle of the dang state forest I’ve got four bars LOL. Thinking of dragging the big screen out here and streaming some movies. Woods is beat up. I’m seeing oaks that lost tops and branches and maples seem to have just keeled over. Even on the atv some trails are impassable. I mean there’s always away if your life depended on it but just not worth it. Time to head home before it gets dark.
Old school around here. I have no cell service at our home so I still have a wired landline in case the power goes out. I can at least call the co-op.
We had major wind at our place in CT and only .04" of rain. We were without power for about 16 hours; not too bad considering. There are still a lot of outages across the state. A good friend and forum member here let us borrow his generator to keep the fridge going; it was a huge help. I heard the same thing BuzzSawBrad posted; line at the local compost center was huge. There will be a lot of scrounging opportunities after this storm.
Thats messed up. Ive had jobs where id get no reception on the roof and had to walk across the street top use my phone. Joe, cut some storm downed catalpa yesterday on a chain saw job i picked up. Thought of you and was cracking up.
Wow! I saw many of my neighbors making trips with trailers Wednesday. One group went buy a good 6 times; caravan of three vehicles towing trailers. They had a big Oak fall in their backyard. Bet there's a lot of wood laying around Brad!
Odd, Just yesterday my mother pointed out a tree she wants gone down near where the field turns into old pasture. You guessed it, Catalpa, Good 80 footer. Just what I always wanted, another Catalpa LOL
shoulder season Joe, shoulder season! Cant burn black locust for shoulder season wood. I mean you probably could but most FHC would faint and/or block you if you did! TV said 450,ooo still with no power in CT.
I’m among those still without normal power, internet, etc. I have backups and work-arounds, but taking the time to put those in place and make sure the homestead is settled is keeping me from scrounging. It may be a while. I borrowed my parents’ generator to run my 4 refrigeration units. I have the well (110V) and boiler going and limited service on a mobile router. I have been running to get gas daily. I didn’t think it was useful to photo the piles of pre cut stuff because they might be gone by the time I can scrounge. I may start noting logs some time soon though. I don’t know how I’m going to drop some limbs of the huge maple in the back. It is very close to the coop, the pool, the garage, the leach field, the shed, the kid’s play structure, and a pear tree. Once I remove the immediate hazard, I may have to wait and do it in autumn. Can’t afford a tree guy.
Still no power here in central jersey.Word is not until Tuesday.Trees/power lines and closed road all over my area.Had a big old cherry fall in the yard along with a million smaller branches. The chicken yard took a hit as well, no casualties
My wife has a friend who lives in Pompton Plains and the other day she told us she did not have power yet. Do you know if they have power in that part of NJ?
Power is restored, but cable internet down and Verizon data slow and intermittent, I will post photos of the tree when I’m able.
Not sure about Pomton Plains but most folks in my area are back on as of yesterday. Many thanks to the Lineman crews from out of state.Florida,Georgia and Alabama to name a few.
