We only got about ten minutes of rain, and even though we were on the right side of the storm, which is the dirtiest side, the center of the storm was far enough west it wasn't bad here at all. Leaves are still on the trees and not on the lawn and not much for branches down at all. I have blown over plants and plant pots. Everything that had storm protection held up.
Hoping everyone who got hit hard gets cleaned up and power restored right quick.
We could have used a little rain though.

Caffeine going in. Poured rain here for a little while this morning. Combined with yesterday’s rain should help out our water table. A bit of thunder has the dogs nervous. Should be over for us soon according to the radar. I have to take my son to a doctor appointment today. And recuperate from lost sleep.

    Who is your real enemy?
    By Linda Buxa

In the book Catching Fire, Katniss, a tribute, is about to enter the arena for the second time when her mentor, Haymitch, offers some final advice: “You just remember who the enemy is.” Katniss doesn’t understand at first but eventually realizes she isn’t fighting against the other tributes. The real enemy is the Capitol, the masterminds of the Hunger Games—events where tributes fight to the death.

How often do we go into the world—our personal Hunger Games arena—thinking other people are the enemy? Maybe those whose political beliefs or social standards are different or who do anything differently from us. Maybe those in other churches or even in our own churches. Sometimes it’s even our own family members.

Our God, our ultimate mentor, has a different idea: “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

We minimize Satan’s existence. We aren’t comfortable talking about evil spirits, so we pretend they don’t exist. We blame our earthly struggles on the people around us or politicians or media or culture. We forget the devil is the mastermind, the enemy.

Today is another battle in the arena, but remember who your real enemy is. You are no longer a tribute, but a victor. Not because of what you’ve done, but because Jesus “disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2:15).

Thought about burning the stumps as well. Or renting a stump grinder. But I probably would cut as flush as possible. Maybe taking pressure washer and blasting some of the dirt back at the ground line to get really flush.

Man I hate to hear that. I hope the son will be ok. Sometimes they don't bond and have a huge attachment other times they need that person. This day always will come but hard regardless. Hopefully the mother is there to help the son through life. And others can now help a little bit.

Another real cool night. Yesterday was the first day to not reach 70 and we love it. We've had a couple that came close but did go over 70. Still not bad for this time of year.

That tropical storm passed through last PM. Lost our power for a while. in the news this AM that 91000 lost power. Also a woman lost her life when a tree fell on her apartment building. The main reason I keep harping to not have big trees near your home if they can fall and damage you home.
[IMG] If you have a choice, get rid of them and live safe.

FIL came over to help me install a transfer switch for the generator and gave me this, said it's too heavy for him anymore. Should fit on the shelf next to the 261c, the 250, and the 180 just fine. I should ask for his help with stuff more often.:D

Started really putting my cheap Echo CS400 through the paces today on the big red oak that fell in my yard last night. I think right out of the box they produce 0.0000001 horsepower and 0.00002 inch grams of torque. I was getting seriously aggravated and would've gone out to buy a "real" saw except that after this storm, everyone in my area probably bought up every single one around. After a lot of profanity followed by a lecture by my wife about my profanity, I took the saw into my workshop and hollowed out the catalytic converter. What a difference! After that, it was practically flying through everything with relative ease. At some point I'll be getting a "real" saw, but at least I should be able to get all this oak processed with what I've already got.

Interesting. Fwiw, my dolkita still has the cat in the muffler. It's loud, way louder than my 029 super , and my buddy's 460 mag. It actually cuts faster than the 460 mag and we use the same exact chain, and both are 20" bars. It's also 64cc vs 79cc in the 460. Whatever. It is what it is.

Had to get the old couch that we put in the basement, back upstairs. Getting it down the stairs was not easy so many years ago. It took a buddy and I a long time as it barely fit in the stairwell.

It was easier to get it back upstairs this time all on my own.

Just take half at a time.
