Welcome to the site, and I've gotta say, an impressive set up and gear... not that it hasn't already been pointed out. I try not to get jealous, but sometimes it's hard. I think our only overlap for gear would be the logox--> do you like it much or find it's a tool you walk past more than use? I get a good amount of use out of it.
NO. No fighting for a couple months yet. Antlers still tender and breeding season not yet here. That is an exciting though.
Thanks for the welcome RGrant. I do like the LogOx, but after having it for a while, have found myself leaving it at home for use while processing. When out in the woods, I went back to my trusty Stihl cant hook and pickaroon. The LogOx is a great tool, but I'm just too accustomed to the tools I've been using for years.
That is how we roll around here EODMSgt . We look out for each other and try to have each others back.
eatonpcat looks the same way when he’s “trying to get into his tent” at the end of a GTG night. Love ya Bri.
EODMSgt I was going to say sorry but this forum has no more room for new members, but it's only one day later and your post is already 7 pages deep! I guess there's room for newbies after all haha. That's the great thing about this community, it seems to be a never ending treasure trove of information and exchanges from enthusiastic members. Looks like you already got the culture down of sharing pics of your firewood exploits (people on here can be real fussy about not showing pictures, actually I found out the hard way they can be rather cranky ) That said I rate your first picture a 10 outa 10... Nice job with that firewood lot! Welcome Sir and Thanks for your service
Another great thing about this forum is the threads on firearms, knives, hunting, fishing, etc. No one judges what folks interests are. They can easily opt out of looking at threads or forums if it does not suit them. It was pretty clear when FHC started that these threads would be allowed, all good. Thinking about it, I have never seen any post "anti-" this or that post on here. Like-minded folks on here. As far as meeting members, I have met quite a few. One is right in my town, another 15 minutes from here. Good people...
Welcome to your new home! I gotta say, as an avid woodburner many years myself, you sir have it down pat! Glad to have you aboard, and thank you for your service to our beloved USA!!
Many thanks Jack Straw. Those stacks have been seasoning since last year and I'm going to hate to break them down and move them into the shed. Just part of the never-ending cycle (and I need the exercise....).
Many thanks Scotty Overkill and thanks for the help getting my account set up, I'm glad to be here. I don't know if I have the processing down pat however it's better than it was 11 years ago when I first moved back home and got this wood stove. There are some who say I still handle the wood too many times (yeah sure, insert smart-a** joke here...) but my system works for me and I don't mind moving the wood a few times. Processing firewood never seems like work and I enjoy it. Usually in the spring when the snow melts enough to finally get out and scrounge, I just focus on getting as much timber as possible back to my property. I can then process the logs and rounds at my own pace and not have to fight tourists who think I'm harming the forest by bucking a dead and down tree. I then go back out after Labor Day (once the hordes of out of state plates leave the area) and go scrounging again. As long as I stay at least one year ahead (so I have seasoned wood for the upcoming winter), and have all the rounds and logs in the lot CSS before the snow gets too deep, it works for me. If I have to move the firewood 6-7 times over it's lifespan, that's more enjoyment (therapy) for me and more calories burned. S/F
You have a sound plan, and it's working! I remember when I was one year ahead......now I'm at almost 7 years ahead! Call me crazy......because, well, I kinda am! Wood crazy! You know you have a problem when your wife yells at you for bringing firewood home! She made me get rid of this load the other night, a whole heap of standing dead chestnut oak from a removal I did (alot of which was pretty much ready to burn!).... Almost made me cry!
