Many thanks thewoodlands. I've lost too many friends and family over the years, and scraped up too many comrades in the war, but loosing my buddy from the last 10 1/2 years was one of the toughest things to go through.

Thanks for posting tree killer. Beautiful dog and sorry for your loss.

There's something about pictures of dogs in the snow...

Many thanks Erik B. Yeah, firewood has been an addiction since I retired from the Corps. Most people when driving around here are looking at the mountains and scenery...I'm pointing out dead and down trees I can go back for. And the whole evolution of processing firewood, from cradle to grave, is just good therapy.

Thanks for letting me know about the @ function. Didn't mean to blast everyone with replies on my first post however if people took the time out of their days to make me feel welcome, the least I could do is say thank you to them.

Thanks Woodwhore. Looking forward to browsing around the forum. The fact that there are quite a few firewood addicts from NH on here is one of the main reasons I finally joined.

Thanks Locust Post. Losing that dog was worse than losing both ex-wives and all the $$ that went with them. Never really missed them but I'm sure going to miss the pup.

Thank BCB. The woodshed went up back in 2010 and it's worked out great. I would have preferred a saltbox roof however I wanted to be able to access the stacks from both the front and back of the shed to cut down on rotating any leftover wood at the end of the season.

With bear season approaching in 33 days, definitely looking forward to hunting season. And, after around 30 years of trying, I finally pulled a moose permit!

Only Stihls in this house. Nothing against the other brands, just grew up with Stihl saws and never saw any reason to switch.

Thanks eatonpcat. Not trying to run my message count up on the first post however I felt it was appropriate to respond and thank those who took the time to welcome me to the forum. I spend more time outside in my woodlot than on the computer so my numbers will slow after this post calms down.

Many thanks Chazsbetterhalf. That dog was the best security system (and best friend) anyone could have wanted.

Welcome to the forum EODMSgt and thank you for your service.

If you are not aware yet you will find many of the folds on this forum were once members of another one and happy to be off that one. We really try hard to keep this one friendly.

I love the pictures you posted and it shows you take pride in what you do. Yet it does make me wonder when you say you like bear meat! That is a definite no-go here! We do have a bear hanging around but he or she is safe with me. My wife doesn't like it though but she does like all the deer we have. H. and I hope you get a nice moose.

This picture is not very old. Still a bit over a month till hard antler so more growing to do!

Was there a deer fight? The one coming charging out behind the one looks like he is ready for one.

    Thanks Backwoods Savage.

I grew up with black bear, venison, moose and other wild game as our staple for meat during the year so it's in my blood. The pic below is my old man (on the right) from back in the day bear hunting. What's neat is that this pic was taken after a successful hunt (obviously) but was taken only two minutes from where I live now (and it was the state record for the year). Guess the apple doesn't fall too far...

It appears there are definitely some characters on this site so looking forward to being a part of it.
