While I await my Super Split, I sit here and watch videos of endless logs being spit. But, many users push back on the rack as it doesn't retract completely. Any insight? That's something I do not want to do.

The top of the beam needs to be kept clean....theres a little spring loaded follower that rides on top of the beam and it will get build-up under it.if its clean and lubed theres no problem with it retracting by itself....its actually very fast.

i just keep a putty knife on a s hook attached to the splitter and give it a scrape when it starts building up

As others have noted, keep the top of the beam clean, clean, clean. Also, you can set the splitter up so the wedge is a little higher than the ram so it goes with gravity better. Last year I started using a new spray on gel grease that clings a lot better than something thin like WD40. I think its WD40 specialist gel grease or something like that.

As others have mentioned, keep the rail clean. I also just shorten the springs a little at the back of the machine. Just grab an inch or so of the coil and slip it in between the frame to shorten the spring without actually cutting off any of the spring. Adjust accordingly.

A few good pointers here. I usually put a 2x10 under the front leg(gravity helps) Keep a scraper handy and lube the bearings every so often.
