That will burn off with a good fire. So will the creosote in the flue. Crank it up.:smoke:

Dip a wet paper towel in some ash, wipe the glass, follow that with a dry one. Good as new.:)

I seriously do not see a problem. That will happen many more times throughout the winter. Burn a hot fire to clean it off or whipe it off with paper towel and ash.

My stove will still do that when I get into some of my 22" wood that was cut for my old Dutchwest. Some of those splits are so close to the glass I am scared to shut the door since I have had a few hit the glass when shutting the door. Anyways when they are literally laying on the glass it will off gas out the end and leave a black spot. The next fire that is nice and hot and doesn't' have wood on the glass will remove the stains though.

    Fair question,
"*Although some users report good results with ammonia-based window cleaners, others report that it leaves a rainbow sheen on the glass that’s difficult if not impossible to remove. If you try this technique, test the cleaner in a non-conspicuous area of your woodstove glass before you do the whole thing."

Getting use to my new epa stove, I was turning down the stove a little too soon and getting a bit of that, getting it figured out now, I still get some but not like I was.
One time I did get a big spot in the middle , from the end of a log poopin on it :)

I've used a mixture of vinegar and water that has seemed to work pretty well.. Stinks to high heaven, but it's more natural that oven cleaner.. Has worked really well for me and doesn't leave a film..

My glass has a black film on it. How can I clean it?

You can clean your glass by using an oven cleaner and paper towels or razor blade. You can also make a solution of vinegar and water.

That's actualy very CLEAN glass, this time of year. When I do slow burns, my glass can get pretty dirty/black. Just get a good hot fire going and most of it burns off.....

I get that in the lower corners often over night but as soon as the fire gets going the glass cleans right up and looks great. It is however annoying to see  Which sometimes leads me to impatience so I clean it anyway even though its pointless. :emb::p

    I
I remember the first time I read that tip. I thought I had to somehow clean the glass with an ash split. A real Homer Simpson moment for me.

Steve, it really is the easiest way to clean it. Why fuss with vinegar or other crud?

:D That's the way I do it now (after I had my epiphany and smacked my forehead).
Sometimes I get build up on the glass during the burn, like HDRock posted above. Is there a safe way to clean when the glass is hot?
