14 birds = 43.6 pounds of meat. Was expecting a bit more.

Wait, something seems off here. Are these the jumbo broilers? They should average close to 7 pounds each at that age.

I miscalculated. They were 10 weeks and 5 days. Hatched on 5/12, processed on 7/25.

These are the birds I picked up: Imperial Broiler Chicks

I thought I was doing everything correctly. Started to only feed in the AM (2 feeders worth for 14 birds) around 6-7 weeks so they didnt start having heart attacks.

If they taste incredible I'll overlook the smaller size lol.

As long as you’re happy that’s all that matters. I’m sure they will be delicious!

I'd say you for that breed of Chickens you did good. From reading on that link it says 5.4 lbs live weight in 9 weeks... So your right in that range... I wonder if they are more like the Red Rangers? I'm sure that they'll be good....

Just curious if you kept track of costs and figured a per pound price? I always do for the jumbo cross but have been wondering if other varieties work out better price wise

Just ran the #s. About $105 in feed for 14 birds = 43.6# of meat = $2.40 per pound

That’s not bad at all, especially considering you know what you’re eating and the quality is unsurpassable

I was able to get enough done on the coop the last few days to get the couple of chickens we have in their new home. There is still work to be done but I can keep plugging away while they inhabit the coop.
