    I've done it both ways, every pet has had the same reaction, I think they can smell death from ones clothes and hands when we put a pet down if they don't see the body.

    When we lost Rascal to the cougar, Cricket wasn't outside but Shadow was with Allan when he found him and she went after the cougar to chase it over the fence. Allan's presence saved her from an attack I believe. The two dogs were quite subdued for a couple of weeks but then became better friends. I know Rascal looked for Juliette (our German Shepherd we had when we got Rascal) for awhile after she was gone. I think dogs live mainly in the present, only remembering the past when something triggers it. Unfortunately for dogs previously abused, the past is triggered quite often.

    They know it. I'm sure they've all had "conversations" with each other. I make sure the others see the passed pack member.

    Ok. Here's some light hearted pet update

    Hayden made himself comfortable between coolers under a table at our friends HS graduation party yesterday.

    People would give him an ice cube every time they got a new beverage. He commanded them to do so. :thumbs:

    Each one I’ve had to bury the other two came and sat by by the hole. Seems to take a couple weeks before the closely connected pups get back to a normal routine. I know another hole is in our near future but don’t dwell on it. Just give them the unconditional love they give you and accommodate them through their journey to dog heaven.

    Thank you for all the kind words on first Blondie in May, and now Blackie in August. They were wonderful companions to our whole family including our cat. 13 and 15 years with them (respectively) was not enough for me, but I know we were Blessed they gave us all the time and love they had during their lives.

    We have a new canine family member. We went back to gun dogs like I've had since 1986, although 3 mutts also blessed us for 12-16 years each. Darling, happy, easy going baby, like all of the others (with the exception of Peaches, who now has the best owner ever for her).
