That is a concern.... weasels can sneak right in and take out a flock.

We considered hardware cloth. I think we might end up putting some around the bottom over the chicken wire. At least that was an idea that was mentioned at one point.

We (meaning I) wanted to double up the chicken wire at the bottom but I dont think the wife will go for that.

I have to just bite the bullet and pay for it. (Meaning the wife wants it but I thought it was too expensive)

It can be, I found a good deal on Amazon when I did mine, but certainly not everyone buys there to support local... which I try and do often. The galvanized stuff holds up pretty well

Well Chvymn99 is a lot faster than me lol. 14 birds in 7 hours lol. I still need to go through them and pick out some pin feathers. Plucking is the worse part of the job. I'm having a burger tonight lol

BTW drill powered pluckers are sh it. Save your $. I tried it on 2 of them and just decided that hand plucking was faster and less messy.

Picking up a ready to butcher pig next weekend. I'm moving my table into the kitchen and doing that in the comfort of the AC lol

Do you have a barrel plucker? I was looking around to see if anyone had one to rent locally.

Well it helps with a helper that use to do a lot of chicken butchering with his family... It takes quite a bit of food to feed 14 kids... Good to know about the drill powered plucker... Glad you got them done...Did you do any weights out of curiousity? I know it was a relief when I finished... I smoked one last weekend too... It was really good...

.... I'd really be interested in this... Cause plucking is where a lot of time is killed... :emb:... .. Sorry... it just came to me like that...

Yes. When you get the water the right temperature, I can have a fully cleaned chicken in under a minute. 3 of us can do 50 chickens in 3.5 hours

Not quite functional yet but will be soon...

All that is left before it can be used is making the access doors, putting wire in the windows and making the ramp. I will focus on those things first. I can finish the trim work and bury the wire after the couple of chickens we have are in. Hardware cloth will be added to the bottom at some point as well.
