My can similar to this one. Every time I have to fill the lawn mower my can just about leaves me. Throwing it over the hill. I have never seen such a dysfunctional and aggravating product. I am not very tall, have a few years on me and to hold a 5 gallon can at chest height while it slowly glug glugs is hard. After the third time that the little titty thingy slides off the rim of the filler nozzle I am ready to throw the can as far as I can Any hacks to eliminate the safety feature and get the gas out of the can faster. At the very least I am going to poke a hole in the can with my knife to let it breath. Do they make one that actually functions like it should?
Marshel54 . I recall seeing a tank vent upgrade for that type of can. It was like the old style vents. I believe you drilled a 1/8" hole and press fit it on. I look for old style cans at yard sales and auctions. I have at least 10 in various sizes. I'm a gas can hoarder too.
One of the hacks that I have seen was to take the core out of a valve stem drill a hole and pull it through the can and out the hole. I believe the hole was a 1/2". I will have to research it again. The hack also came with some spout modification that I wasn't sure of.
I picked these up a few years ago. they have survived my uses. EZ-Pour Hi-Flo Replacement Spout, 30051 at Tractor Supply Co.
Every replacement nozzle/spout I've bought has not fit the cans I own. Probably just as well as I don't store much gas any more due to ethanol anyway.
I have 2 of these in 5gal and a 2.5. Difference other than size is the 2.5 doesnt have the back handle. I like for the top fills. Not sure how they do with side or angle such as a saw.
how many acres do you have?? 5 gallon of 40:1 mix here can be gone in 72 hours between mowers saws trimmers etc etc
I used those add a vent caps and it was better than no vent but never really sealed properly. Here in Canada Scepter gas cans brought back the vent about 2 years ago. Bought a new can and kicked the old one to the curb. I also upgrade the low flow vent spout and replaced it with after market no vent spout. Got a great 2 pack deal on these at Costco for $20 last year.
I have a couple of those types. They actually work for me, and I dont mind them. The ones similar to the op's pic are a pain
I broke down and bought one of those battery operated liquid transfer pumps from HF. I have to say it really does work good. I do not use a spout anymore or a funnel.
I have drilled a hole near the handle and inserted a valve stem with the needle removed. Use the cap to open and close the vent.
I use these cans now as well. I find it makes it much easier to fill the saw if you lay it on its side...
