Backwoods Savage - let’s see that pic of Barcroftb cutting in the water.... just to help EMPASam see how to do it.
Assuming you do get permission the next question is can you get any equipment to it? Might be worth calling around to some tree companies and have them take a look. Just a thought, it's their busy time of the year. Good luck and keep us posted
It's hit or miss. Mostly people who live in the area. There are a few public spots to put in but they aren't very obvious so I think people tend to head to other stretches. There is a dam (real one) a couple miles in either direction so anyone coming a distance is somewhat dedicated as they have to portage a few times. That being said it can be done fairly easily. Our Kayak Journey Down the Entire Charles River That's an interesting story for anyone interested in the Charles or kayaking/canoeing. This guy paddled the entire thing from the start to the atlantic in Boston harbor with his kids.
That's my big concern. The previous owners had some issues with conservation because someone rowing by thought there was a sewer dumping in the river. It was overflow from a spring fed pond that had been flowing for 50+ years but it created a huge cluster. Almost put the guy in jail because he didn't pay the fines etc. (he had some other issues beyond this so probably could have avoided some of the hassle). End of the day, the drainage was no big deal, not even on the property but created mayhem. All I need is someone paddling up the river and wondering why I'm naked, covered in mud, wielding my chainsaw.
I grew up in Milford. That part of the Charles (Milford swamp) was my old stomping ground. A lot of the pollution originated there. Nice to see it all cleaned up.
I got a feeling that your town can go above any regulations and remove that tree for you. If it gets loose in a flood and then snags on a downstream bridge causing a water backup bad things will happen.
We had trees along with a bunch of beaver dams come down through the Brook years back in September that took four bridges out, 3 town and 1 state. I'm thinking they wished people would keep some of that Brook clean of trees but the beaver dams you can't do anything about in NYS unless you get the DEC involved.
The pictures might be a bit out of order but here are a few of the pics with one more added to show that we also know how to get tractors stuck.
