Hello friends, Hope everyone’s happy and healthy. I found this tree on my property and Iv never seen this leaf pattern before. I looked it up some, is it chestnut????
That will help greatly. Although, if you squint just right it almost looks like beech. The leaves look right as well.
It looks like it could be chestnut but I have no chestnut trees in my area to compare it to.... really curious on this one.
Leaves look a little skinny for the chestnut oak I'm used to, but could be. I think bark pic will help immensely...
The leaves are all wrong to be horse Chestnut. Horse Chestnut This tree Beech leaves That's why I'm saying beech.
Looks too serrated and tipped to be beech. I was wondering if it was chinquapin, reason I asked about the bark and form pic.
Looks like beech or chestnut oak. Not familiar with chestnut leaves Chestnut oak leaves and bark EDIT: had to satisfy my own curiosity and looked it up...it is indeed chestnut. Not horse chestnut
Been a while since I have seen chestnut too, but that one is a dead ringer for it! There are a few left around, and the OP is lucky to have one! Last I saw a real one was about 45 years ago....
the only time i ever cut any was horse chestnut last Fall. I was scrounging Asplundh cut wood and found a chestnut on the ground and the homeowner told me it was. No leaves or nuts on tree. It was lousy wood to hand split and i wouldnt take it again. NOTE: third pic has a pine log resting on top.
