Logging finally resumed this week. I checked out the end piles which are beginning where the logs are cut to length and then loaded. Found a couple of ash rounds and took them away for splitting. I will likely scrounge as much good pieces this weekend to ensure they don’t get cover with junky things The fun begins. There is another section a couple miles across the woods which I will have to drive a couple miles to get to. Given it will be ripe for claim jumpers I will hit it pretty hard first.
Logging has been continuing with less rain here. There are four skid steers working the woods with another month of harvesting estimated. LOTS o’ trees coming out. many are not being bucked much. 80 footers taken out. Apparently going to the mill and being put into containers as is for China. on property, in one county, in one State, from one country. How many other countries are selling to China? That place must be devouring the timber supply world wide
In our county there is a couple places that stage the logs, have graders who represent their export companies who grade, and buy the logs for export in containers. The guy in charge told me that most of the walnut was going to Europe or Japan... Looked to me that he was dealing mostly with very large white oaks and walnuts. Premium stuff.
Good, maybe we can send them some pests in trade for EAB etc. Nice looking logs though. Hate to see them shipped overseas.
Main complaint in our province is logs like that going to Japan without further processing. Losing jobs as mills are shutting down.

The timber operations don’t work on Saturday, so I am going to scrounge that beautiful lock out of the trash pile with a few shorties before they are covered. log is about a 24 inch. Will sic the Husqy on it and get it css in short order.
not much work today. Sand humid. I found a white oak blowdown not far from the house, that is about 40”x 60 feet with no limbs. It will wait until Fall. Kept looking at the other big oak I cut up and brought to the wood piles for the girls to split. It will be a while until it’s cool enough for them to work, and I am nearly finished with my third holsen haus. Decided to split up a couple rounds before sunset. these require some ‘rasslin’. Two fills up the bed of the Mule. I have at least eight more like this.
