Clematis climbing up thru the old birdfeeder lighthouse I placed on top of its trellis. You can see a vine coming thru the hole
Looking good bogieb. We had a clematis at the last house climbing a trellis. Like clockwork every early summer, some little bugs would get on the stems and buds and chew them. The buds would flop over and turn brown. The plant only had 2 or 3 large flowers a year. We kept it for many years since I trained the runners around the tool shed overhangs on copper wire.
Roast my marigolds! They started OK, but they are obviously stressed. I just gave them some Miracle Gro. Clematis doing well.
Midwinter, That would look right at home here. Flea bane is over 3' tall now. A very informal flower garden. I did see a hummingbird at the red clover yesterday. I haven't put a feeder out yet, because I put it away "somewhere." The left side of the pic is all the wildflower seeds I planted back a few months ago. It should be great in a few weeks.
We planted these wildflowers in our old garden spot before it became a log yard...lol... They have come back a couple years.
Not sure what these are, but I enjoy their visit every year Common daylilies have their place Hydrangeas are looking well. And the "Dr Seuss" plants are opening up. Bee balm. I have these red, as well as some pink. The pink ones open a week or so later.
Thank my mom.... She’s a retired florist, and a state of VA certified Flower show judge, and a current participant/designer in the SC garden club. Ain’t much that woman don’t know about flowers.
That lily is unique - I love to see unique flowers I didn't even know there was such a thing does it produce viable seeds or is it a sterile cultivar? If the seeds are good, can I get some from you? Be happy to provide you seeds from my gardens if you see anything you like (batisia, butterfly weed, white and purple gayfeathers seem to be especially viable)
Pictures from Wednesday early evening Although these can be hard to control, I love the sunny feel they give the hot days of summer. I've let them go in both the shade garden (1st pic) and under the tree line in the back yard Hosta. In the background are purple and white gayfeathers (liatris or blazing stars) starting to set up flower stalks I wish I could get a true-to-life photo of the laceleaf Japanese maple in the roadside garden. The new growth (center of pic) is such a stunning and brillient red with a touch of maroon while the mature leaves are stunning in their own right. I marvel at it every time I water this garden (every 2-3 days right now). And to think, I almost didn't get one The driveway garden with the butterfly weed taking charge of the blooming duties since everything else is either past, or not yet there. That is not quite true, a newly planted (planted 10 days ago) pincushion flower is in the lower left in my shadow - you can barely see the minute red flowers I found this poor thing wilting in the tree line (crappy pic I know). Made me hook up another hose so I could water it. Don't know where it came from since I didn't plant it and it wasn't flowering last year. And, I don't have any other white foxgloves - but I'm happy it appeared. I was happy to see it had perked up by yesterday morning. How I got a decent shot of the inside of the flower is a total mystery since I didn't even have my readers on, plus my hands were almost at the ground so I couldn't see the viewer. Probably the best pic I've ever taken of a foxglove Some of the day lilies are setting up some flower buds, so they should be opening in the not-to-distant future.
