Took a sunset cruise with Charlotte. Gave her the option of her normal bedtime, or a boat ride. It was nice on the water. Great end to the weekend.

Hope you all had a good Father's day. I got calls from my kids. I haven't been outside today. Too hot and the air isn't good. I don't recall such a long spell of hot dry weather this time of year. The month started off unusually cool, then had a sharp turn around. It has been great for campers, but virus restrictions has killed most of that business. Brown tail month caterpillars has infested this area. Lots of folks with rash and horrid itching. Drug stores are out of the Rx for it. Combination of witch hazel, hydrocortisone cream and benadryl cream. Just the hairs of those critters float in the air and get on you. Most common under oaks.

Its definitely unseasonably hot. This is more late July-August weather. Low 80's today, but then high 80s-90F for the rest of the week.

plant garlic with you plant sets and use diatomaceous earth. Your plant should be bug and critter free. When ever I remember to put garlic in with the plants, I seldom have issues with something bothering them.

Do you think that would help with my peas? Something is getting to them as they poke their heads above the ground.

Another hot and humid day for us but then 3 days in a row in the 70's sounds good for mid week.

So back in March when the SHTF, my employer sent everyone who could work from home, home. I believe it ended up being about 75% of the staff went home to work. I was deemed essential because I have animals to care for but was asked to work from home as much as possible, I've been going in 1-2 days a week for 3-5 hours.

They now requires that every employee has a negative “Bug” test result (PCR test, not the antibody test) to be on campus. We have a certified clinical lab at the Conn campus. So they started testing every employee and are processing them at our own lab. First all employees in Conn then CA and now Maine. They are testing the people who are already on campus first and then moving on to the people who were sent home to work back in March. The initial rounds of testing is 3 consecutive weeks, and I think testing every other week after that.

I'm sure there were a lot of legal hoops to jump through to set this up as far as HIPAA laws.

I had my first test last Friday and got the negative results yesterday.

Hospitals are requiring a negative covid test before performing any routine procedures. So today I am prepping for a colonoscopy:binoculars::bug:

Well we have a nice thunderstorm going on. A lot of thunder. Seen one bolt directly across the valley. Knew it but t still made me jump. Almost over. As the warning is out and we are directly in the middle. 30 mph gusts yes. Torrential downpours yes. Hail no. It is pretty much east of us now and only getting light rain. From 82 to about 70 now.

Listen carefully. YOU TAKE CARE. Chances of you having having a stroke in the heat are HUGE. stay well hydrated and rest right when you feel stress on your body. Whatever you are doing can wait or go without. You are much too important to allow yourself to become a victim to this heat wave.

I would give it a try. Garlic is cheap and easy to plant. The diatomaceous earth can go on with a duster. Any chewing insect hates it. Any slithering insect get cut up by it. Most all critters hate garlic. can can make a garlic spray in you blender. add some dawn soap so it will stick. Only need a spoonful of the dawn to a gallon of water. Garlic as strong as you want. Just so you know. Garlic from China has a very clean root base. California garlic might has a little dirt in the root part. So if you want to avoid the China ones, get ones with a little residual in the root area. The ones from China can't have that residual due to import laws.

It is a little late to plant garlic but I might try the garlic spray and the earth. I thought I might try starting peas in the house and plant them out when they are a couple of inches high. Or plant carrots instead of peas. My carrots seem to be doing well - the ones that came up that is.

Got up to 88* here - still cooler than the mid 90's as it has been. Also was heavily overcast until about noon, so the house stayed fairly cool until the sun came out.
