My arborist buddy from Denver dropped a bunch of wood at my house a couple of months ago. I just got around to splitting most of it today. It was raining while I was splitting it. I always love that! It's mostly good, heavy, hardwood. Curious what you guys think these particular splits are? My guess is that the first one is Hack? The grain is very yellow. Most hackberry that I've had in the past didn't seem as yellow. Second one could be elm, but is way heavier that most elm that I have. And it has a very dark, almost purple grain. The third - Maybe some kind of maple? I have a lot of all three of these. Hopefully they burn well. Thanks, friends!
Just looks like good burnable wood to me.. Glad you have a source, getting tougher to scrounge around here.
Yeah, I consider myself lucky, buddy. I have a friend that owns a tree service in the Denver metro. He drives up here and drops tons of logs on my property every other month or so. Mostly city hardwood. I save him dump fees and get free firewood. Win, win.
Turn the number 2 towards you so we can see the end grain. At least that’s how I’ve been able to peg oak. I was thinking aspen was the 3rd but then I had seen the same stuff before, very light stuff that soft maple will get.
I am sure what they are not, Douglas fir! Not Redwood either, Not Myrtlewood, for sure. Not, not, knot! My flying in the wind guesses (are there prizes? Maybe some cash, Cash?) 1. Hackberry 2. Elm or Locust 3. Red Maple Oh, and I would eye roll anyone who even tried to give me a piece of wood as UGLY as that first one. How did you even begin to split that vile yellow turd? file photo of a Douglas Fir in Oregon
H ha ha. Well, it will burn my brother. And won’t end up in a land fill And sorry. No cash. I’m just a fireman. Kinda broke
Yes, he is right! We have lots of that. A few don't like it but we love it. Also one of the fastest drying wood there is.
First looks like hack. (Scarce around here) Second maybe elm. Third looks soft maple. Great connection with your friend. How often and how much does he bring you Cash Larue ?
