Had some storms roll through a few days ago and had another oak down across the driveway.
Had my kids help yesterday and got the top cut, split and stacked and cleaned up all the twigs, leaves and branches.

That is really nice when they come down right by or in the driveway. Makes for some easy gettings and then having the family help is great!

Nice little stack of wood. It’s always great to have the score so close by.

Sure made for some easy pickings... This is the 3rd tree that fell across the drive this spring, blocking me from driving in and out. This makes all these storm damaged trees top priority to clean up ASAP if you want to go to work or come home from work.

Still feel blessed wth the wood. I'm full up now.

I need to find a wood cutting buddy that wants to cut free firewood that lives close by?

Your trees are sure taking a beating this year! Too bad I'm not closer, we could short work of those.

I was under the impression that oaks were deep rooted but that didn't seem to be. Was there ledge under the root mass? We had one across from us come down the same way. It had ledge under it. Can't deep deeper than a couple feet on this hill.

    I'm in Hocking Hills.....

3rd big one this year across the driveway... :picard: Too bad your not closer is right! The real work is dealing with the crown and all the branches, leaves, splitting, hauling and stacking.

No ledge or rock. All three that tipped this year have simular root structure which looks shallow to me... If I had to guess, it's the sandy, rich and wet soil that keeps the roots shallow here. We had a very wet spring which isn't helping either. I have another huge oak that has tipped torwards my neighbors land which will be the next to go. Also have a medium size oak by my building that has some disease...

I've been giving some to my neighbor who is a widow and heats with wood...

I hope you don't have brown tail moths. We have them here and they cause a horrid itch. There are little hairs on the caterpillars that float in the air and get on your skin causing a horrid itch reaction.
