What kind of oak is this?

Last week here in michigan we had a big windstorm. Came across an oak tree down in a guys yard that said to have at it. Wondering what type of oak it is?

 

Looks like one of the red oaks, maybe black oak.

 

I've cut a few white oak that have that core color.

 

Looks like it could be white oak based on bark and medullary rays.
Does it have a whiskey aroma CaptainNemo ? If so, its white oak.

 

Yeah it does smell like whiskey. White oak it is! That's the first white oak I've come across. In my neck of the woods its mostly red oak. Thanks for your help!
