Not all but some of those rescue outfits get a little carried away on their requirements. We applied one time to adopt a Boxer, we had Boxers for over twenty years, mixed in with my German Shepards. Lady asked what happened to our last Boxer, told her we rescued it because it kept having seizures, even with meds from the Veterinarian the poor guy only lived 5 years. The lady denied us because when the Boxer died from a seizure that we we didn’t pay for an autopsy!!!!!!!

Agree that some are completely ridiculous
    :wacky:

We have one like that here as well.. I think they just like hoarding dogs.

Also agree with Loon assessment of that lady.

Sorry you didn't get the pup, but the organization sounds like they are very knowledgeable and interested in truly finding the right fit for the animals in its care. Actually, being available for only 2.5 months is not really a long time for a dog that faces challenges to the perfect fit.

Okay, that is just stupid. I've never had an autopsy for any of my animals (12-15 cats and 7 dogs). Course only two passed away naturally and not thru compassionate EOL medication at the vet.

Right now with more folks being home from covid, dogs are being adopted at a very quick rate. The dogs that are on a longer wait seem to have high energy levels or behavior issues. I do give the fosters credit for figuring the best fit though, so we are understanding.

We inquired about another lab mix yesterday, and it was already pending adoption. Its' a good thing for these pups.

Don't wanna jump into a chit pool, but I don't get this.

Not saying you're right or wrong, haven't looked at any information on the subject.

Just that if people are at home and temporarily bored, or whatever, that is not a good reason to adopt/bring in a pet. (personal opinion)

Life will return to "normal" quick enough, then what considerations have been made for the animal?

    Gonna stop here

I completely agree it is not the right reason. We have been checking three adoption locations, one in person and two through Web pages, since late last year. Two are reporting overwhelming interest in adoptions. The last one only has a few pups.

One place listed 5 dogs still awaiting homes, but all can't be with cats.

I agree. However, many people don't get dogs because they are pretty high maintenance for the first couple of months as they get used to their new home and families, especially if they may need some sort of training. Also, if they have other pets, it is an awesome idea to have people around until the pecking order is established AND you are confident nothing untoward will happen when gone for a while. Additionally, it is a great time to find out if there are any separation anxieties - being gone for 10-12 hours on your first day back to work is not a good time find out your dog can't handle no one being around for an hour, let alone the whole day. So, it is a perfect time if your only roadblock is being around for the settling in period, training, and ensuring there are no other issues that either need worked with or are deal breakers.

Naturally a high energy pup will not do well if there are a billion walks at first and the kids are home to play with them all day, then everyone goes to work/school and suddenly they are just rushed out a couple of times to do their business. And, as you point out, boredom for a short time is not a reason to get a dog, ever.

fishingpol I'm sure the right dog will arrive for you. It's been my experience at least.
    :)

    bogieb very valid points.

Chazsbetterhalf and I felt very guilty leaving Holly alone when we were both working.

Fortunately we were very close to the point where Chazsbetterhalf could retire.

Now Holly has had to deal with a lifestyle (routine) change due to my work schedule change.

We spend most all our time outside when we can.

The last time we got pets from the humane society we got a 9 year old beagle mix and a 4-5 year old cat. We were warned about the dog getting after the cat but it took less than 24 hours for the cat to establish "top dog" status. Both are gone now.

I'm sorry, I have to wonder if a staff employee or member wants it...... Sounds fishy to me having worked at a humane society and I personally took many dogs to the yard to meet potential owners and look for both good signs and bad signs. Keep in mind this was a very long time ago but much of the animal shelters follows similar guidelines that from where I worked back in the day, if they met home ownership or landlord approval and did not show signs (like college couples going home to separate states over the summer or not able to grasp the concept a pet was a 15 year commitment) were all approved. Really......
