After seeing what was out there, and dismissing the Crock Pot Express, I ended up getting a Hamilton Beach multi-cooker. It isn't an over the top cooker, only having 7 functions (8 - if you count low slow cook separate from high slow cook). I had to wait for a couple of weeks for them to come into stock on Amazon (who was something like $20 cheaper than anyone else), and I received in on May 27. I've already used it 4 times and found it handy enough that I don't bregrudge it the large footprint that is basically the same as the old slow cooker.

I'm really glad I got it. I have used the Saute function for green peppers and onions, and the Sear/Brown function for meats. Then, I just add other vegetables and broth and it is ready to go to the slow cook stage. I never used to sear/brown meats, which meant I had to cook for a lot longer than strictly required to ensure the meat was cooked thru. This cooker makes it easy, and without any extra dishes to do, so there isn't any reason for me not to do it. I took the above picture a few minutes ago while browning some chicken breasts, and have since turned it to slow cooker to make chicken and vegie soup for the week.

Only thing I wish, was that it had a "Beans" setting. I would be more likely to use that than the White Rice or Whole Grain settings. Also would have been cool to be able to do yogurt in it, but in reality, I probably wouldn't use it but once or twice, then the ease of the grocery store would dissuade me from using it again.

    WORD From The Woods

    Romans 8:1-17

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

This is one of my favorite passages in the whole bible, probably because it's one of the most familiar. When I was in high school I used to lift weights before school with my pastor, and between sets we'd memorize scripture. Romans 8, is the first passage we memorized, and it comes to mind frequently in my life. With all the busyness of this life, it's so easy to neglect our spiritual life and fall into the desires of the flesh. I've heard a lot of people use the first part of this passage as some kind of excuse for sin by saying "there's no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," as if this verse is telling us not to feel bad when we sin. Paul is communicating here, that we shouldn't wallow in condemnation when we sin if indeed we have trusted in Christ and have the Holy Spirit living within. The Spirit has indeed set us free in Christ, but that doesn't mean we have an excuse to go on living in the same old sinful lifestyle. In fact, if we truly are in Christ and have the Holy Spirit we will experience conviction rather than condemnation. Conviction is a good thing, it is the Holy Spirit driving us to holiness. If our mind is set on things of the spirit, we will live according to the spirit. And when we do sin, we will experience conviction from the Holy Spirt and confess those sins to God. The mind that is set on things of the flesh will live according to the flesh because there is no conviction of sin, there is nothing to drive that person to God. When we placed our faith and trust in Christ for salvation, we were given the Holy Spirt as a guide to bear witness to our spirit that we are children of God, and that means we are fellow heirs with Christ. If we're fellow heirs with Christ, then we have received the Holy Spirit as a part of our inheritance. This passage should really challenge each one of us to examine our spiritual life. If we can just go on living a life of sinfulness with no conviction, we might not truly be in Christ. This in not a challenge to examine another person's spiritual life! It's challenge to look at ourselves. We have freedom in Christ and should never let the devil drive us into condemnation, but if we are in Christ, the Holy Spirt will drive us to Him when we do sin.

God bless, and have a great week! -Terry-

Ok, I'm done for the day.

I changed out the driven end cap on our water boss water softener as it failed under warranty, mowed the lawn, got a couple of coral frags for my fish tank, did a little grocery shopping, got a couple of new pair of jeans, filled the garbage can with nasty wet carpeting and padding, cut and got more of that nasty wet carpeting off the basement concrete, took the garbage out to the curb, planted peppers and more tomatoes, grilled out ribs ( delicious btw) and probably did a few more things I'm forgetting about.

All done. I'm enjoying my drinks now.

Over here in the western part of the state they are calling for 1-4 inches or more. It could get bad considering how much rain we have gotten in the past couple of weeks. The ground is rather saturated now. High winds are to come with the storm as well.

Its supposed to be hot and muggy before the front hurts tomorrow around 5 pm. I'll be home by then, so that should help. I already battened down the cover on the boat, and ensured the patio umbrella was tightened to the base. We need to move the few plants that are not yet planted into a corner that is shielded from the wind.

Yeah. We're bracing for it. It's supposed to hit pretty much all of Wisconsin.
