actually you can submerge them in Coca-Cola and the phosphoric acid in it will remove rust.

 

While this is quite true.. Paul Harvey rest of the story is then they still need to be cleaned because the sugar and other ingredients are a magnet for every piece of dirt, dust, grit and grime you can imagine! Phosphoric acid is cheap and a lot less of a PITA, don’t ask how I learned this

 

And phosphoric acid leaves a corrosion resistant coating. I still miss Paul Harvey btw.

 

No rust removal being done on my part. I did one chain, dipped it in oil and let it "drip dry" then ill individually bag them.

Jason i take it they wont get freezer burn that way! Great idea! FHC ingenuity at its finest!

Dumb question. How do you hand file without a bar? Use one of your own? Vice?

 

take the chain off and use vice to hold firmly. Little more control that way. Sometimes ill leave the chain on the bar and put the bar in the vice

 

Or leave the chains at home and go sit at the bar.

 

I do like Jason. PB Blaster and a baggy or plastic leftover container like the Chinese restaurants use.
Use a sharpy to write on the container what saw they're for.
