I’d say that’s a lingering side effect of Lyme. It’s very common for docs to poo poo Lyme. The more you look into it the more common it becomes. Now docs that don’t have to treat it will say they know all about chronic Lyme. Ask them where to get treatment and they go quiet. It was my Lyme literate holistic doctor that brought me back. I think it’s beginning to loosen up. The CDC is still fighting it tooth and nail but enough researchers are out there now complaining of the fraud. Throw in a few politicians who have gotten sick and it’s slowly becoming an issue. 40-50 years later.
My nephew had it and my son did too when he was 9. I didnt read through all the posts yet, so if this has been said already, I apologize. When my son had it, he didnt have the bullseye rash. He had a rash that was basically the shape of an oval that went from his back across his stomach in a horizontal angle. It would come and go. When we took him to the pediatrician, she called all the nurses in and some of the other doctors came in the room too, so she could show them what it could also look like. If you get meds and they say avoid alot of sunlight, my advice is to stay out of the sun entirely. My son was covered up but he got one heck of a sunburn on his hands. He even wore gloves. Of course this happened right before vacation so the NC sun gave him a beating.
Only my dog, we keep close eye on her and check her over. You are right about the ticks taking a ride.
I live in the town where the disease gets its name. Lucky me! Yes, I've had it three times. Want to learn more about Lyme disease than you could ever imagine? Great podcast from NH Public Radio >>> Patient Zero
Me too, (past tense) "at one time and where I got it"!!! I was in the US Coast Guard, teaching at the Academy in New London!
Way back in 1976 I had the bullseye rash never got treated a short time later I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and Grave's disease never tested for Lyme. I have discussed this with my primary Dr. and he doesn't believe it had anything to do with the bite and rash that I had I disagree, What do any of you think?
I don't think "Any Doctor" knows exactly when Lymes disease hit the pavement. (per say)... I'm no Doctor and I know various things like a rash can "mimic" a tick bite, but who knows? You are in New York. I wouldn't rule it out. Did you have symptoms like some of us? Mine were Freakin Horrible!!! I don't think I ever had a temp of 103.4º, "ever"! I never want to experience that again...
Yes I had symptoms no high fever but achy all over tired all the time I ended up hospitalized for three days for tests then radioactive iodine treatment, I was out of work for ten weeks as per Dr. order. remember this was '76 into '77 Lyme and ticks were unheard of in this part of NY. Now I try to stick to natural remedies with an occasional Advil, Aspirin or Tylenol for pain.
Holy crap! I’m just getting caught up on this thread. Glad you’re feeling better. I’ve never had it, but I know a guy who almost died from it, when he didn’t get treated for several weeks. Lyme is a miserable disease. Hope you keep trending in the right direction!
Well I can't say I have had lyme disease but did have the bulls eye and put on antibiotics right away. I was changing clothes or getting ready to take a shower or something. Found a nice bull's eye on my stomach. Called local VA and they had me come in that day. Gave me my meds before I walked out. Told me they had like 20 cases so far and was expecting it to get bad. As far as Holly or any of our dogs, we have always used advantix II. Never have seen any on her. She get her dose the 1st of the month. So she is due.
It’s certainly possible. Just because western medicine didn’t discover Lyme until 1980 doesn’t mean it wasn’t around. I’ve read that “The Ice Man” had Lyme in his system. Can’t claim to know that’s the undeniable truth Graves is an autoimmune disease. Lyme, while technically not an autoimmune disease itself, does cause autoimmune diseases. There’s also a hoard of other bacteria ticks carry that cause disease. It’s not just Lyme. Seems as if it’s getting worse, or maybe medicine is just figuring things out now? Don’t know. Some researchers say it’s getting worse. The old Lyme tick was a walk in the park. Today you can get multiple systemic infections all at once. Most people tested for Lyme now, by a competent doctor, will also be tested for a myriad of other infections. I know I had/have several.
yes besides Lyme's there are several under lying diseases one of which mimics lyme but is completely different and much worse. Recently discovered about a year ago or so. been tested several times- but always inconclusive.
I gotta say this in this thread! That $#!T KICKED MY A$$!!! I can't get any plainer than that! I don't wish that on anyone, well maybe one.... But, if you "ever" feel chill's, fever and bad body aches in the spring or summer, get to the ER! Strip down and look for that dam "Bullseye"; Real Good! I couldn't see mine, the Doc and ER nurse saw it behind my arm pit. It was so pretty they took a picture of it! ....
When I got my last tick bite, they didn’t even test the tick, just wrote me a scrip for antibiotics. I found this little feller on my arm after about 15 minutes outside this morning. Sorry for the blurry pics. I tried my best to focus.
That's the problem so dang small can't see them. that and I am not double or triple jointed. With stuff like this being so prevalent should just be able to go to store and get what is needed like Bufferin or Aspirin, not screw around getting an appointment and all the associated costs or clogging up the ER and it's over the top costs.
For whatever reason, as of late, doctors are very hesitant to prescribe antibiotics. It makes no sense to me. Doxy has been prescribed forever to treat acne. Now when your life is on the line it’s too dangerous. Crazy stuff. Separate point but Still in the crazy column. On the CDC’s own website they state 30-40,000 cases of Lyme each year. There’s also a footnote after that claim. If you look up the footnote they concede the real number is 300-400,000 cases per year. Yet they claim they have a handle on Lyme and know all about it.
Don't know that I have ever had a tick on me...lived here 21 years now, never have seen a tick...but have seen 4 ticks in the last week or so...the one today was crawling on my arm when I woke up from a catnap after work...flicked him in the sink and squirted a glob of hand sanitizer on him...he didn't seem to like that
it's the real tiny ones that are the culprits primarily. Some of which are smaller than a pin head. Not that those big brown wood ticks are benign either though.
