WOW, great safety moment chat as they would say at work. I've been very fortunate over the years with only a few jewel taps and hip bumps. Sorry to hear of the injuries doing something that makes up so much of our lives. My awareness will now be up while splitting.

As always while working with the equipment we all use (and sometimes forget how dangerous it can be), SAFETY FIRST. PPE is great, but common sense and awareness are very important as well.

Is that from your department Cash Larue ? Interesting the tire on the roof.
Does the fire department keep tabs on cribbing blocks knowing you're a hoarder?

Ha ha! No, that’s not my department. I do get a glimmer in my eye every time we cut a whole truck load of new cribbing blockso_O

I always wear gloves and ear protection when splitting and chaps for chain saw work. I just ordered a helmet with face cover for chain saw work and splitting. This is a hobby and I don't need a serious injury to sideline me. The cost of all the PPE won't even come close to the cost of an ambulance ride or one hour in the ER.

Or the time you have to take off of work with a serious injury.

One of my first times using the splitter with my buddies I was standing in front off to the side (bad rookie move) when a piece of oak bent and came shooting right at me fast. I got hit in the right side of the jaw. Thankfully I was prett anesthetized after a chit ton of beers and shrug it off and kept splitting. Next morning I was swollen and black and blue and could barely remember what happened. Lesson learned

I have had some pieces come out past my head when I was helping a friend run his wood processor. Dam when that happens I wish I did have a helmet on.
