This is now healed. It actually happened the first week we were home due to the COVID situation. So to give you the back story. My log splitter was built by one of my advanced welding classes in the last two weeks of school. (all of their projects were complete and who wants to sit?). Well, I have brought in some logs, a picture of a tree I cut down for my youngest daughter and her husband. Good straight tree, hollow in the center. Anyway, I had a bunch of logs and pieces needing split all around the log lift and I was not in a good frame of mind because I had just flooded my chainsaw so went and started the splitter and figured I would split what was cut. Well after a couple of splits as I lowered the log lift a piece had rolled so the log lift could not get to the ground. So I stepped over the log lift with my right leg and rolled the piece away and hit the lever to lower the lift but it bounced up! #$%^^%$. It wasn't one of those limp away know you are hurt type of hit. It just caused bad language due to my already deteriorated positive outlook on life. Was more mad because it caused a rip on my MUCK boot. So fast forward a couple of days err nights, I woke up thinking a bunch of bees were stinging my right ankle. By morning, I could see swelling and some discoloration. By the end of that day my foot hurt to walk normally on it. So this is a picture of the injury 4 days after it happened. (it is the only picture of it by the way). It got really colorful a couple of more days later. Really swelled and was hard to put a boot on to do chores. Major reason the calves weren't started in stanchions earlier. (see another post about my grandkids) You can actually see the spot where it hit me on the leg above the ankle, looks like a round circle (like ringworm). Everything else, I don't know what it was, where it came from but it swelled about double of this size before it was all over. And as it was getting better, it swelled again more on the opposite side and hurt again for a week. So, be careful, be in a good frame of mind. Have an enjoyable summer all!
I hope it heals quickly. Glad it wasn't more serious. You broke blood vessels above the ankle. Gravity did the rest, pulling blood lower on the foot.
I had a bad fall skiing years ago. I hit my hip to the point I was on crutches. The broken blood vessels released blood to cause bruising just like in that picture all the way around my tender man parts, down one leg, and just about to my calf. It was a horrific bruise and one I never want to see again. Best wishes for a speedy recovery
I am so sorry, almost tragic, those Muck boots are very nice and not cheap! Hey, the hoof will heal, am I right? Seriously, that looks painful. I’m glad it wasn’t worse.
campinspecter had a round roll over his ankle while splitting wood one time. Didn't break the skin but it went all red and bruised like that. Didn't break anything. He ended up with his foot up for about a month as it got infected.
I'm sure many of us have had bruises similar to that and know how much they can hurt. I hope it does not bother for long. btw, were you able to come up with any new words? If so, probably nothing you'd want to write home to mother about.
Did something like that at work falling out of an airplane, caught myself with a hard punch with my elbow to the doorframe. Worked the rest of the night and forgot about it. Woke up with a swollen elbow that kept getting worse. That was Friday night, Monday on went to see the doctor and it was all tender and bruised. Workmans comp doctor gave me medication for the swelling, that night I broke out in hives and got an ambulance trip to the hospital, in a snowstorm. The med techs didn't strap me down to the stretcher, and the driver spun out in one intersection, I had IVs in both elbows, but had to grab the stretcher rails to stay in place, so both inner elbows also became swollen and bruised from the needles. My wife drove from Maine to get me from the hospital in Manchester, in a severe snowstorm. By the time she arrived I had completely recovered so I walked out of the emergency room as she came in all worried about me. Then a week later the elbow got infected, spent another Saturday in the emergency room waiting for everyone else to be seen. It was the first warm day of spring, so everyone went out and got hurt, 6 hour wait for a 15 minute scrape out and stitches. Hope your foot is back to normal
Glad it wasn't more serious! That picture reminds me of myself about 10 years ago. I was on the receiving end of a transaction between my shin just above the boot and a very unhappy about to become a steer going into a head chute.
Wow that’s some story! We had a local guy die while being transported in an ambulance, the driver went off the road and it was a bad crash. I’m glad you’re ok.
"Did something like that at work falling out of an airplane"... OK... now that right there is a great way to start an injury story... was waiting for the parachute part the whole time... Hope yer foot heals up quickly JWinIndiana ... and glad yer elbow is better too Rowerwet ...
Don't know what it would weigh but when one round lands on your foot it hurts and looks the like yours the day after . I the event of another round dropping a steel toed pair of caulk boots with metatarsal protection to wear around the wood splitter is my defence .
