Some nice looking future btu's. Dont blame you on the leaner. Did you take the sweet gum? Dont recall ever see you with any. Dont blame you if you left it. God bless you working in heat like that. I wouldnt last long. We havent had any real hot days yet. A few Summerlike but nowhere's near "hot". Mother nature gave you a nice gift with that blow down.
No sir, I'm being a wood snob...lol...left that sweet gum, most had a good bit of PI on it, drop and run...lol...it got hot quick down here. Had been in the 80's for a few days, not bad humidity. Then 95°+ on Friday, 100 on Sat...didnt have my fans with me...lol...
A friend that does land clearing text me yesterday morning, said he was finishing up a job and had some big oak tops left. We grabbed the dump trailer and took off. He pulled it out and loaded it for us. That compact CAT excavator is STRONG. All oak with 1 10' maple log. Behind where he was cleaning up was another blow down, he asked what it was. I checked, it was a nice willow oak. I managed to get to the rootball and cut it loose. Probably 24-25" dia and solid. He was able to grab it from the top and pull it out. Going back in the morning to get it, maybe 2 loads. Taking the 'Bota...
Nice that you didnt have to take the bota the first time. I imagine it can get to be a PITA to make multiple trips with it...but on the flip side the labor saved!
It hasnt gotten that bad up here yet for me. Im not a hot weather person, but the chance at a good wood score will more than likely trump that!
Went back to the clean up site Monday for the willow oak. We got most of the main trunk on the 1st load We pulled out more of the oak top, found some more oak limbs and a tulip poplar tree, with the butt cut from the oak, made the 2nd load. Oh, the green log is catalpa, I think. The willow oak was over 24" dia. The new hitch is working well. While getting the tulip poplar out of the pile, I saw something that looked familiar, a really nice red oak log about 18-20' long, then I found the butt piece of that tree 21' long...woo hoo...took a little digging with the 'Bota, but we got the prize. 3 loads hauled yesterday, got a total of 4 loads from this site.
Nice loads sir! Will the catalpa be for sale or personal use? Nice when you find the extra wood at a score. Happens to me on occasion!
We will keep it for personal use. Probably keep the tulip poplar too. Glad we were able to get it out.
Got a text from a friend that his brother was clearing off a lot to build his house. Had a few oaks and lot of hickory. He pushed some in a windrow, still have to pull those out. He left a lot more scattered out to get. Got this heavy load in the evening. Didn't start till about 4:30-5...rainy and then turned hot... My hunny said we had made the quota...5 loads since last Saturday.
Poor Chaz ......he will git'ter done. Miz Carol thinks we have enough......almost 32 yrs and she still hasn't learned how I am... I just quietly remind her we had the sheds full in Sept, by the end of the year they were empty and we were cutting as we went.
Just gives me reasons to put it off...I told her I would do it, she didn't have to remind me every 6 months...
And how much wood does it end up being, Jeff? What would you get for the same, jrider? Always curious what people are getting in different regions of the country. I was talking with my dad today, and he remembers when a cord of firewood was going for 300 bucks in San Francisco in the mid 80’s!
