    2-8ft racks
    IMG_20200515_085905944.jpg

I have some concrete stepping Stones that I've been putting under my racks, as they've become empty. Minimizes sinking into the ground.
    IMG_20200515_085918678_HDR.jpg

They were leaning. I thought they had stopped moving. They've stopped moving now.

    IMG_20200515_085806410.jpg

The splits were good to burn 20-21.

My back is aching just knowing what's ahead. I gots me some wood chucking to do.

    Oh well. Life happens.

Oooof! Not a pleasant thing to see... but maybe a blessing in disguise. At least now you know you can get it stacked right for more peace of mind.

Im right with you. Same thing happened to me last week. My ash stack had the pallet side break free (rotted) on one side and than had a metal fence post give way on the other because of soft ground.
Fixed that. Though I felt like taking gas and a match to the entire thing.

    Gravity does suck at times

If you stack wood ready to burn closer to your stove, now might be the time to move it there. That’s always a bummer to have a stack fall over. Take it easy on your back. Those splits aren’t going anywhere:yes: Get us some pics once you get it stacked up again. Good luck Mike!

    Aw, brother, that does bite...:(:headbang:
Did it sink in the ground?
Maybe you can get the pavers under the racks now and it won't happen again. Take it easy on your back...

Congratulations Mike. You have just confirmed the law of gravity.

On the other hand, as a friend and I usually say, this gets you more practice and that is why I most times have to do a job twice; I need practice.

I don't know if press like is the thing to do. More unlike. It is definitely not fun to see a pile fall over. Especially when you did put it on concrete blocks to make it stable.

When I see a pile fall I usually think it's time to get it in a shed that's both top and sides cover. Its dry enough. And no snow or rain that can make it wet at al.

    Yes - ground became aoft.

I have some 12" round concrete stone I salvaged from my SIL. They'll go under each corner, and mid-span. They'll act like "footers" and keep it from happening again..hopefully.

Haven't had one tip over in a few years.

There were NOT any sizable blocks under the corners. There will be, though!

Did you say a belated "TIMBER" when you discovered this?
One question...can you attach the rack to the deck with some screws? Then attach the second rack to the first with a 1x3, 2x4 attached to both vertical members? Really stiffens it up IME.
I will attach racks to trees if i think the ground is unstable or if it is slightly uneven, even if i level it.

Not timber, but "damm. A logalanche!"

Having better rack-to-ground contact, should suffice. Other racks I have, that have more substantial "footers", haven't tilted at all. If I didn't have the concrete stepping stones, then tieing racks together would be a good idea.

I hate when that happens.. I've had some rows stacked before of odd ball pieces and I've looked at it and said " this is definitely going to fall over" 2 years later its still standing... Then I've had some text book perfectly stacked rows "King kong ain't knocking this over!!!"... First wind storm and its flopped like a fish.. Gravity has a funny way of playing tricks on yah.
