For the wood I store here at my house for my owb, fireplace, and my sons firewood stand at the street, I’ve always stacked wood on pallets that lay directly on the ground so they rot out pretty quickly. I have a landscaper friend who has all sorts of pavers he can’t use for projects and are free for the taking. My original thought was to lay them down to put the pallets on to keep them from rotting. Well now that I have some of them down, I’m thinking I should ditch the pallets all together and stack the wood directly on the pavers. I’m not worried about losing air flow underneath because it’s basically all going to be fast drying pine anyway. It would be nice to get rid of the pallets.

If it were me, and if I had the space, I'd be using those pavers to hold up some pressure treated 2x4's, and stack on them. I do that with some rescued concrete stepping stones. One at each end, with one in the middle of the span. But, there's nothing wrong with using them as you have them laid out.

OH MY, you for sure don't want to use pavers like that... I'll stop by and dispose of them properly for you this weekend... :D

I plan on stacking at least 8-10 cords here when I get all of the pavers. That would be a lot of 2x4’s

If you are not worried about air low, stack right on the pavers. Second hand pavers can be had for cheap and some in great shape. There is stone depot near me that sells used Techno block for 25 cents each. These are great for backyard fit pits.

I ditched the pallets. I use pressure 2x4's held together by 3, 9" sections of 2x4. That gives me 2 'rails' spaced 12" apart. This is set on concrete blocks. Each end of the stack is held in place with metal fence posts.

So far, I've paid nothing for the block or the posts. They are all 'recycled' from local farms and the like.

Man! He must have a lot of pavers to get rid of! I’d just stack directly on the pavers if I were you. Very permanent solution to the pallets. Awesome setup:yes:

Yeah, pallets usually have the lifespan of a couple yrs when used for firewood.

I'd ditch the pallets. I burn half a dozen a year minimum.

Put the pallets on sleepers...a 4x4 or 2x4's that will prop the pallet off the ground. Greatly extends its life.

I found a place near me that sells plastic pallets for $5 a piece. Some of the ones I have have been around for 6 or 7 years and are on their 3rd three year plan assignment.

JoeyD I would love to get hold of about 10-12 plastic pallets for $5 each.
There was a local guy who had some recently on Craigslist but stupidly I
passed on them. I'm now kicking myself for that!:headbang:

Call ahead, it's a little disorganized when you get there but they took good care of me on two visits. They did give me some leeway on which ones I wanted but they are kind of busy so I felt kind of like I was disrupting their work. They were all real friendly though.

Some might be a little nicked up but they've held up so far
