Cut a small load at my neighbors woodpile yesterday and split it today. I ran across a few rounds that I wasn’t sure what they were. They’re heavy for their size, kinda stringy when split, smelled sweet while I was cutting. I didn’t think to look for leaves yesterday.

Looks like Maple to me. Both the heartwood and the bark.

Does sycamore have a bark that turns white as it goes up the trunk? This was the same color all the way up.

I didn’t think of hickory, buZZsaw BRAD. The white sapwood makes me think of hickory too.

Bark is scaly on a mature tree and turns into the unmistakable "camouflage" bark. Tree pictured was 4' diameter trunk! The wood is terribly stringy to split and i avoid it like the plague for that reason. IMG_1772.JPG IMG_1773.JPG IMG_1771.JPG
