Hi All, I was using my Stihl today, it was cutting fine, then just died. I had just put a new plug and air filter in it not too long ago and haven't cut much since doing that. After trying to restart it for awhile with no luck, I tried choking it trying to flood it to see if I could smell gas, nothing. I'm thinking either fuel line, fuel filter or both. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check your fuel filter first. Check for spark with the plug out and grounded

Check that plug and ignition coil.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give that a try and see what happens. I hate being without my saw, especially when my neighbor just gave me three hickory tree's he had cut down.

Get a good flashlight and shine in the tank to inspect your fuel line. A pick tool or something you can hook onto the filter will be good and apply a slight amount of pull to check for brittleness.

If the saw sits for long periods, maybe the carb could use a thorough clean and a new kit.

Couple Winters ago my circa 2010 MS290 was sitting idling and stalled. Tried restarting and wouldnt go. Saw had always started cold on 4-6 pulls and one when warmed up. Turns out it was the roller bearings on the clutch plate. Simple $10-15 fix.
Sounds like this isnt your problem though.

Would this problem only happen with your brake on?

OP- fuel system, that line is prone to cracks. As mentioned above check spark...

I was making a cut when it died, under a load. I have parts ordered, I figured as old as it is I might as well change out fuel line, plug and filters. Thanks again

It died in the cut? Take your muffler off and see if your piston is ok. Start there, then go through the fuel system.

Good News. Thanks to all of you guys for the good suggestions, I have the 029 running excellent once more. I replaced the fuel line and filter. That did the trick. Thanks again for all of your support. Great group of guys.
