For those who could not see the attachments, it is in pdf form. Some may not be able to open that file. Perhaps the best thing about this 303Bourbon is that you are comparing only 1 year but this will continue on year after year after year. It works out even better than accumulated interest! The second best thing about it is keeping your family warm. You say 70-75 but we keep ours around 80 all winter and love it. We could not do that if heating with oil or propane. But then, we don't even have a furnace for heat; only our wood stove. It has been over 40 years now since we've had a furnace and we get along just fine. I've often wondered just how much money we've saved over the years by heating with wood; wood from our own place.
I started burning wood the 1st year we moved into our new place. We have fuel oil as an alternative and have used a little less than 1/4 tank in two winters. It’s a beautiful thing!!
I know several people around here who have done various things to lower their propane bill only to get whacked with a much higher unit price, like double or more. My brother had to go to a 30 gallon cylinder for their stove because it made a lot more sense once he got down to just that. They wanted to add a $100 service fee on each delivery Rip off artists
Have to careful with propane companies. Suburban propane was charging me 4.60 a gallon when going rate was 2.00. They charge different prices for each customer and increase it after fill up hoping people won't notice. They are crooks. Still irks me. I just had a fill up at 1.85 a gallon with different provider.
For me, my goal with heating is the following. The primary source of heating will be wood. With the exception of our bedroom which is too far away from the woodstove. We'll be installing a mini-split in that room this year, and then the rest of the house next year. They will act as a backup to the woodstove. Our oil forced hot air system and the oil hot water system will come out. Replacing the oil hot water system will be a heat pump water heater and I might couple that with a solar water heater. Just keep in mind that wood is my primary heat. Jason from RI
They are thieves! Took a half tank of propane to the Suburban dealer one day because it was too cold to use a partial tank with a weed burner. I got half a tank. I watched him fill it and was watching the gallons. When he told me the price i knew it was for a full tank. I said "for x.xx gallons?" "We charge per fill up" That was about ten years ago and that was the last dealings i had with Suburban. Everyone else charges by the gallon for a 20# tank. (4.6-4.7 gallons) I don't mind them making profit, but doubling the price is wrong.
Same for us years ago with Dead River, Ellsworth/Brewer. They were charging us 2x-3x because our usage was "too low". I compared around and for installing our own LP tank. A few run arounds with the regional manager after I told him to take his tank back, he dropped the price to what everyone else ( LP furnaces with high use ) paid. Be aggressive, persistent, but firm and polite. Our LP cost ( hot water, cook stove ) was halved. LP pricing is the wild west in Maine. Do it. P.S. Will call your LP manager for beer or single malt( Geary's or Laphroaig).
Hey Maina, they have Laphroaig at Hannaford in Ellsworth. The fifth is running low with this snow. You having a gale now also ?
When we bought the farm I shopped for LP supplier. I found one that stated they had no minimum and no service fee. I do rent the tank from them but at no cost as long as they refill it. I was up front about the small tank size and low usage. When I call for a refill they estimate what a fill will be and just work me in when the driver is doing a couple refills in my area. I live off of a paved main route out of town so it's always been less than a week between a refill request and actual fill. They have offered to upsize my tank for free but it would have to be located further from the house and need new lines run. New lines would cost more than my annual LP bill.
Maina--off to Ellsworth this afternoon for ethanol-free fuel and.....and... one fifth of Laphroaig for the quarantine. Where's the refill from you ?
Earth to Maina====just back from Ellsworth with Laphroaig. Stop at WallieWorld with her, then Depot, then ice cream, then fuel, then home for some splitting. Some typical orderly Downeast Maine lines to get into the stores , most with masks except the %$#&$. Gotta tell you, some are plain ugly without masks. You're late.
