Picked up the 5/4 rough cut red cedar from Liberty Cedar just down the road. I'll start working on modifying the cut list from the plans, Ana White - Cedar Raised Garden Beds, to meet my sizing needs tonight (modified: or tomorrow). Since this is an easy build, I'd like to get this done at night by Friday. But wait theres more, see below: My oldest daughter is 18 and a senior in high school. Now that they are doing a virtual graduation, they are sending around a photographer to take pictures of the students. My wife wants the picture taken at the bottom of the driveway where her flower bed is blooming. Problem is all around it is overgrown and needs to be cleaned up for the pictures. Guess what I'll be doing at lunch, and after work. Right now there is no schedule as to when the photographer (who also did her senior pictures) will be coming around around. Rain is in the forecast tomorrow until Saturday. So if it's not ahead of the rain or after, it will need to be inside. My next guess is that I'll be helping to clean the downstairs in the event the pictures need to be taken inside. Oh boy. Talk about derailing best laid plans of mice and men. All kidding aside, my daughter pretends it does not matter. I think most of us know that when she looks back on it, it will matter. If she were a boy, it wouldn't matter. Anyhow back to the garden boxes, I am excited to be moving along my list of projects. As I stated in my other thread never can I remember this much downtime that allowed me to work on our home/property. Normally just getting the lean-to woodshed would take all summer and fall to build and get the logs cut and stacked in the lean-to shed. Yes my schedule is self inflicted. My dad hated that I put the kids sports ahead of things that needed to be done at home first. He put the things at home first and never attended my games. We are from both ends of the spectrum. I guess I was so pizzed at him, I couldn't take the middle ground. Though I have enjoyed coaching the girls in softball and my son in basketball. When it came to soccer, we just watched from the sideline. I only played for a year, and it was not my game. Part of me thinks that is why he chose soccer, but I was perfectly fine with that. I will say this, it's going to be hard after enjoying this progress and downtime to go back to coaching. The other coaches are bitting at the bit to get going. Me I am bitting at the bit to complete one project to move on to the next. All in hopes of getting to the point of the main project of shop organization. I've done other projects Ana has posted in the past, and she does a nice job. No need to make the raised garden boxes a complex project. Here is a link to the vegetable garden layout. Minus the fence and what appears to be a stone material. I've not decided what I'd use around the boxes yet. A mulch would only aid in rooting the boxes. In the center will be a multi-tier floor box with flowers that bloom at different times throughout the growing season. Jason from RI
boettg33 it is a special time for them, went through it last year. Daughter still has some good friends graduating this year and really feels bad for them missing all the special stuff and the recognition.
I'm modifying the cut list at lunch today and cutting after work today. You just have to love it when things get in the way of your progress. I just went out and measured with the sun shinning to get a confirmation that I am able to do a 6' long box and a 4' box to come across the back and avoid the shade line of the back of our house when I come back to front of the the layout next year. If I am not using whatever downtime that I get, it seems like I'll not make any progress at times. Even with softball being shutdown. Other people seem to have better ideas on how to spend my time. :-(. Jason from RI
Well good news, I modified the plans today and was able to do the cut list tonight. Tomorrow after work I'll assemble both boxes. On Friday's I work through lunch so I can call it a day early. Hopefully will wrap this up by tomorrow night and get them both out either tomorrow night or Saturday morning worst case. Pics to follow. Jason from RI.
