I ended up getting the bar pinched today while cutting a downed tree. After freeing (finally) the saw, it will only idle and the throttle trigger has no apparent effect on the speed at all. Yes, the chain is free and rotates around the bar as it should.... I have not taken it apart yet. ??????????????
Check your throttle pushrod ( linkage ) . It could have come loose when you were getting the saw out of the pinch . Also, if that’s it , it means that there was a lot of flex between the handle and the crakcase . So look over the intake boot to be sure it’s okay and secure . It’s likely fine ,as the saw idles correctly ,but a look see won’t hurt .
That's exactly what it was. The rod had come off and fallen down underneath the intake. Had to turn the saw upside down and shake it around for it to fall out. Hooked it back up, adjusted the tension on the chain and fired it up! She was out in the yard cleaning some landscape blocks and saw my smiling face walk around the corner of the house and blurted out...……. "Oh that's great! Good news....now we can get some more firewood!" (sarcasm is one of her stronger traits.....)
Honestly, I don't even know if the dealer is open. Yeah, I did think about another saw, but if I can squeeze another 35 years out of this one, I won't need another saw!
Why not a new saw AND squeeze another 35 years out of the one you have? Anyone see a downside to this?
I had a nice metal flag 61 a couple years ago that was very sloppy between the crankcase and handle. Floppsie almost. Ended up replacing all the AV mounts. Not very expensive, 20 or 30 something. Not very hard to do. Really made it feel like a new saw. Throttle issues were what clues me into that being a potential problem.
