Grabbed the two big oak trunks. Dang I don’t like working on the street. Everybody and their brother stops to talk Understandable, every bodies in a chatty mood what with the lockdown. Forgot to take a pic loaded. Those two were a full load. Gotta say. These two chunks really put that winch through its paces. And the welds and the steel and that synthetic rope. Put up a good fight being jammed in between a rock and some of the bigger branch pieces underneath it.
Think it’s all gone out of my stacks. The only Catalpa left would be the three truckloads I dumped in the mud ruts Fins a use for yours yet? LOL Ok, a lot of that was tulip too. Had a big pile of splits all dumped in the field. Then got sick instead of stacking it. Year or so later a lot of the inner pieces were just black mold and strange mushroom growths. Picked out the top layers and dumped the rest in a mud hole. Some people can dump wood ina pile and get away with it. I can’t.
The shorter fatter white oak will get slabbed into live edge porch steps. Just need two 8” slabs out of the center of it. May have some of the top and bottom waste live edged slabbed too. Have a friend who says she wants to make stuff out of live edge boards. If I find a band saw wide enough to do it a few extra cuts only takes minutes. Wether she ever really uses it is another matter. When I’m having that done I’ll inquire about selling the other oak to whomever is doing the milling. Maybe some of the nicer Hickory too. Otherwise it’s firewood. Don’t really need anymore wood for the foreseeable future but I also didn’t want to watch those logs get hauled off to a bio energy plant or wood dump. I also have no personal use for the lumber. Quit the woodworking hobby 20 years ago.
Took a small load of WO out yesterday morn. Another load of assorted stuff today. Truck developed a coolant leak. Great!! Oh well, contrary to my standard operating procedure I took out a lifetime warranty on this truck. Mostly because I thought I’d be using it so seldom it would be years before something went. Quite a bit of ugly stuff left there. Another neighbor wants wood. I’ll be nice and use the tractor and the trailer and drop it off at his house. Owe him a favor or two anyway.
Would jack stands under the rear of the trailer prevent that? Might be worth a try I mean, we don’t want you passing stuff up because it lifts the rear of your truck when loading! Awesome pics
I’m sure they would be helpful. But I gotta say when I’m at that point it’s a good reminder my lustful eyes are overpowering my brain LOL It’s only happened a few times and when I get to that log in the processing area I usually regret it. I like em big but not humongous.

Been there done that! I totally get it you’re right on about size too. There is a cutoff point where the wood becomes a lot of work. I have a white oak trunk that I didn’t end up tackling this year for that reason. In the time it would have taken me to cut it all up, I could have processed 2x as much other wood. I’ll get to it, just not sure when.
